When I signed up for the Radiography program at Pima Medical Institute, I was a full-time husband, a full-time dad, and I had full-time bills and responsibilities. I worked nights as a patient care technician while attending school during the day. During my clinical rotations, I would leave my house early Tuesday morning, work my rotation from 7:30 am until 5 pm, go straight to my job, and work from 6 pm until 4:30 am. Then, I would take a shower at the hospital, drive to my clinical rotation, sleep for a little over an hour in my truck, and do it all over again. On Saturday morning I would return home to my wife and 4 kids. I did this for the last 16 months of my program. If it weren't for my family and my Lord, I would not have been able to do it. Because of their support, I graduated from PMI with a 3.8 GPA.
My PMI instructors had a passion for what they taught and they cared for their students. In fact, they are among the best people I've ever met in my life. My classmates and I helped each other through and became like a family. I currently work for two great companies - St Joseph's Hospital and Honor Health. They are training me in interventional radiology, not typically an honor given to new graduates. I love my job and am thankful for my education at PMI. It's been worth all the hard work and sacrifice. I'm here to tell everyone that no matter what you're facing or going through, if you're willing to make the sacrifices you can do anything!

I wasn't completely sure about going back to school until I walked through the doors at Pima Medical Institute. From the moment I took the tour and sat down for the exam, Admissions Representative Mary Mikiel made me feel welcomed and encouraged. I don't love taking tests, but her support and positive energy truly made a difference that day. A few days later, she called to tell me I had only missed one question - and that I was officially accepted into the Medical Assistant program.
Starting the program, I connected quickly with my classmates and discovered a great sense of community. My instructors were not only knowledgeable, but genuinely invested in my success. There were five of us who graduated together, and that experience gave me newfound confidence in myself. I was working full time while attending school, and although it wasn't easy, I proved to myself that I could push through the ups and downs and make it to graduation day. I started working at a fast-paced urgent care where everything I learned at Pima Medical came flooding back like second nature.
After about a year of hard work, I was encouraged to apply for a higher position. I'm proud to say I am now the Center Manager at Carbon Health Carlsbad. None of this would have been possible without the incredible support and encouragement I received from the staff and instructors at Pima Medical. They believed in me when I didn't fully believe in myself and constantly pushed me to grow. For that, I will always be grateful. Pima Medical Institute didn't just prepare me for a career, they helped me believe in myself.

I became interested in physical therapy after my daughter experienced gymnastics injuries. I decided I needed a career change and started looking for schools. I chose PMI because I heard they had a solid program and would assist with job placement after graduation.
My major obstacle was time management. I had 3 children at home and was finishing my Master's degree in business at the same time. Open lab and staying after class cemented my bond with classmates and gave me dedicated time to concentrate on PTA studies. I appreciated the knowledge of the PTA instructors--they were all so helpful including making sure we had the hands-on patient skills and solid test-taking skills to be successful for our board exams.
I knew I wanted my first job to be acute inpatient care, but I didn't want to start working until I'd passed my board exam. However, I saw a job posting for UNMH so I applied three weeks before graduation. I got the job contingent upon passing my boards! I have been working full time at the hospital and am now teaching in the online BSPTA program for PMI.
Thank you, PMI, for the real life preparation you gave me. I have frequently heard, "Wow, I can't believe you're a recent grad!"

I had been in retail pharmacy management for a number of years and needed to make a career change. I went to Pima Medical Institute and the information I received about the Respiratory Therapy program was very appealing. I learned that my background in pharmacy combined with an education in respiratory would open many career paths for me. My experience as a student with PMI was great! It was very clear that everyone from the administration to the instructors really cared about me and my classmates.They wanted to see us succeed. To this day, I still maintain a working relationship with my instructors who supported me while I was a student.
During clinical rotations I worked in an acute care hospital. I was very interested in being in this type of healthcare setting and obtained a job at St. Joseph's Hospital. Five years later, I manage a staff of over 50 respiratory therapists. I serve on PMI's advisory board and I am currently the president elect for the Arizona State Society for Respiratory Care board. My education at PMI really helped launch my career from being a knowledgeable clinician into a leader of other clinicians. I feel all of the opportunities I have been afforded have come from my baseline education I received from PMI

I moved to the United States from the Philippines in 2011. I worked at a bait shop and as a nursing assistant, but I was uncertain and not my best self. I wanted to do more in the medical field. I would see commercials for Pima Medical Institute; the students looked so happy, and for a long time, a goal of mine was one day attending PMI.
In 2017, I rearranged my work schedule so I could finally begin attending Pima Medical Institute. I was so thankful for the opportunity and met so many wonderful people. I faced challenges, like starting work at 6 am and working all day before attending evening classes. I also questioned whether I could still learn at my age. However, my instructors encouraged me, and my classmates became lifelong friends.
PMI matched me with a perfect site for my externship, and I enjoyed every minute. I applied for and was offered jobs at four different organizations, some even included sign-on bonuses. I chose Swedish Ballard Primary Care where I assist an internal doctor and nurse practitioner. After just 45 days of employment, I was given a raise and encouraged to take on additional roles. As a result, I am considering continuing my education with PMI's online Health Care Administration program in order to someday become a clinical administrator.
I am so happy, and I am able to help support my family in the Philippines. I am thankful for everyone at Pima. I would not be where I am today without their help and support.

I am currently working as a Medical Assistant in the area of vascular surgery at the New Mexico Heart Institute and I love my job!
It wasn't very long ago that I was working a night shift security position where I was bored, felt like I wasn't getting anywhere and longed for a career. One night I started researching online looking for something in the medical field and Pima Medical Institute popped up. I simply completed a brief form and they called the next day. Before I knew it, I was enrolled in the Medical Assistant Program. I was glad I didn't have a chance to second guess my decision.
Going back to school was challenging for me. I was still working security full time at night, going to school during the day and trying to find time to spend with my two-year-old daughter. That being said, Pima Medical provides everything you need to get started, including your uniform and backpack. I heard the passion in the voice of my first instructor when she spoke and it wasn't long before I fell in love with the medical field. I felt like there was no question whether we were going to succeed. Everyone at Pima Medical was so helpful.
When it came time for my externship, Pima Medical's career services department worked hard to place me at a site that fit my schedule and enabled me to continue working my security job. Being placed with a plastic surgeon was not my first choice, but I had an amazing experience and the doctor ended up recommending me for my current position at New Mexico Heart Institute. I'm so grateful for my new career!

Before coming to Pima Medical Institute's Dental Hygiene program, I lacked confidence and simply didn't have the education needed to provide well for my family. What made me choose the dental field? I had been doing contract work and after completing a bathroom remodel for my dentist, he said, "You're good with your hands and you're really good with people, let me know if you ever go into the dental field." A year later I enrolled in a dental assistant program and then went to work for my dentist. After observing our dental hygienists, I realized that's what I really wanted to do. I had the choice of going to a four year program at the University of New Mexico or Pima Medical Institute's two year program. I was impressed from the moment I walked into Pima Medical. My wife inspired me to invest in myself and in our future and Pima Medical was the route we took to do it.
I had a great experience in the Dental Hygiene program. The instructors were very knowledgeable and helpful, but also not afraid to point out my deficiencies. The process not only opened doors for me professionally, it helped me on a personal level. I was hired by Aspen Dental and in the last year or so I've helped open several new offices, I've worked with an incredible team and I have become the trainer for new Dental Hygienists. I was recently recognized for being number one in our company of over 700 hygienists.
I feel blessed and am so grateful to my instructors. I'm finally able to support and take care of my family. It was a big investment of time and money, but it was so worth it. Pima Medical sets you up for success. I wake up every day excited to go to work and help others!

I was in my early 20's, ready to complete a degree in finance when I realized I really didn't want to spend my life sitting behind a desk. I had a few family members working in the radiography field and I noticed they not only had a great career, but they could choose to work in different modalities and had lots of variety in their jobs. I began researching, found Pima Medical Institute's Radiography program and enrolled.
I had wonderful instructors! It's an intense and tough program, but the way the program is structured really makes you feel prepared for your profession. I enjoyed the shorter rotations for clinicals which exposed me to many different areas and modalities. Once I knew what I was looking for, I was able to complete multiple rotations in my area of interest which prepared me for a job at that very location. I was hired at University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) and after a year I was promoted to a charge technologist and almost 2 years ago I moved into the role of General Radiology Supervisor. I love the fast-paced environment at UNMH. We're the only trauma one hospital in the state and we see something new every day. I'm not the only Pima Medical graduate in my department, we currently have five employees that were my classmates and each year I hire multiple new Pima Medical new graduates.
Pima Medical provided a great education and really prepared me for the field.

After moving from Texas to Colorado for a fresh start, I was determined to build a stable career in the medical field. Research led me to Pima Medical Institute, and from the moment I began speaking with admissions, I knew it was the right choice. Despite facing many challenges, I embarked on the Medical Assistant (MA) program with unwavering determination.
I started living in my car three weeks after starting the MA program. I was juggling homelessness, school and a full-time job. I struggled finding safe places to park, hot and cold nights, and finding time between work and school to do homework, sleep and get to the gym to take showers. I found incredible support from caring and understanding instructors who became like family to me. They provided resources and encouragement, helping me navigate the toughest moments. As difficult as my situation was, school was my biggest motivation and the people at Pima Medical were my support and prepared me for my future. Thanks to great instructors and comprehensive training, I excelled at my externship at Advanced Urgent Care, impressing my supervisors enough to secure a job offer before even graduating.
To my instructors at Pima Medical, I owe a debt of gratitude. I am the person I am today because of you. Your unwavering support and belief in me kept me going when times were toughest. Thank you for never giving up on me. You've shaped me into the professional I am today and I will forever be grateful.

After being a truck driver and construction worker for 20 plus years, I made a promise to my mother before she died that I would go back to school. For nearly five years I passed Pima Medical Institute on my daily drive, and finally found the courage to pull in and take the pretest for the Nursing program. Going back to school at age 50 was scary, but I loved the atmosphere, the instructors and my classmates at Pima Medical. The instructors did an exceptional and extraordinary job preparing us for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).
I applied at Banner Desert in Mesa where I had completed my clinicals and I was hired. It was 2019, and I was immediately thrown into the COVID Pandemic. A year later I decided to become a traveling nurse. Initially, I worried I might not be qualified enough or have enough experience, but I quickly got over that. Every place is different, but most of the core staff really appreciates the relief that travelers provide. I have been to 10 different places in four years. I'm considered a Banner Staffing Traveler within the Banner facilities nationwide and I call Banner Tucson my home, as it is where I spend the most time. Some of the challenges of being a traveler are finding a place to live and being away from family and friends. But, I am getting experience and confidence in different facilities and becoming more adaptable and flexible in my career. Plus, I am making a great salary.
Pima Medical Institute changed my life forever. I made some lifelong friends during my experience, I had some incredible, humble, giving and caring instructors and I am truly grateful!

At age 19, I started at Pima Medical Institute after realizing that my initial path at UNM wasn't the right fit for me at that time. A friend suggested looking into CT technology, and after some research, I found that Pima Medical's Radiography (RAD) program offered a quicker and more fitting path to my career goals. The structured environment in the RAD program was exactly what I needed, although it wasn't always easy. My father passed away during my second semester, which made it tough to stay on track, but with the support of the school, I persevered. The clinical experiences were mostly positive, giving me valuable hands-on learning. Even in challenging situations, I gained skills by working independently, which proved to be great learning experiences.
Graduating in 2004, I entered the workforce during a tech shortage and quickly landed a job. I started in x-ray and, over the years, expanded my expertise by becoming registered in mammography, bone density, and MRI. However, I chose to focus on mammography, as it offered a better work-life balance compared to MRI.
After a decade at a hospital, I transitioned to a quieter clinic setting where I could work more independently, which suits me well. I've been at a small clinic for nearly a year now, enjoying the stability and better hours. Alongside my career, I'm also completing my bachelor's degree in university studies, thanks to a state program offering free classes to those close to finishing their degree.
Looking ahead, I'm content with where I am but open to new opportunities, possibly in management. Pima Medical set me up for success, giving me the tools I needed to start and grow my career in radiology. Now 20 years later, I'm grateful for the education and experiences that have brought me to where I am today.

My mom had been a nurse in the Philippines, but after moving to the US she cared for us and began working as a phlebotomist. This influenced my decision to go into the medical field after high school. On a whim one day, I stopped by Pima Medical Institute and ended up enrolling in the three-month Phlebotomy program which started two weeks later. It was fast paced and very different from high school as students were all ages and yet we were all looking for a change or a new career. Even though our time together was short, it felt like family. My first job was with a blood donation company and after moving to eastern Washington, I worked at a hospital. This gave me a variety of experiences and built my confidence and I later transitioned into dialysis.
I knew I eventually wanted to become a Medical Assistant (MA) and even though Pima Medical was a long commute, I had confidence in them so I enrolled in the MA program. I was pregnant, worked full time and had a long commute each day, but I did it! I feel like Pima Medical helped shape me into a resilient person. After graduation I worked at a hospital and a few other sites as an MA. But it wasn't long before I began to envision myself in administration, so I chose to complete the Health Care Administration online associate degree. That program gave me so much confidence and I loved it.
After graduating, I saw an opening for a Career Services Advisor at Pima Medical, applied, and got the job. Now, I get to guide students and share my journey with them. Watching them grow reminds me of my own transformation. Pima Medical has been a constant in my life, and I'm proud to be part of a team that changes lives every day.
