After graduating from high school I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life. However, I had always pictured myself in the medical field. I am fascinated by teeth and feel as though they expressed who you are as a person, aesthetically. So, I decided to look into a dental career. After researching, I found Pima Medial Institute to be affordable and their classes fit into my work schedule. Therefore, I enrolled in the Dental Assistant Program. I fell in love with the program! It was challenging and my days were long, but I appreciated the structure of the classes. My instructor was just amazing! She taught us everything we needed to know to be successful in the dental field. As I began my externship, I felt very well prepared. Our instructor provided the preparation to help us feel confident and comfortable stepping into this role. I felt anxious, but it was because I just wanted to get started working with real people instead of our practice dummies. I felt ready! The dental office appreciated the training I had at PMI and, even though they weren't really hiring, they were so impressed with my knowledge and work they offered me a position. I want to continue my education in this field. I am currently deciding whether to continue with my associate degree in dental hygiene or if I want to go on and obtain my doctorate. I am so grateful for my instructor and for the start PMI gave me in this field.

I spent nine years as a helicopter mechanic in the Marine Corps and when I got out I began working at the local airport as a mechanic. I didn't really feel like I was going anywhere in my job, so my wife who had completed the Medical Assistant program through Pima Medical Institute, suggested I go there and find a career I enjoyed. My dad completed the Medical Lab Technician program years ago and my mom actually went through Pima Medical's Radiography program and is still working at Tucson Medical Center. So, I decided to see what they had to offer and signed up for their nine month Pharmacy Technician Program. I loved the program! In the Marine Corps comradery is a big deal and I was used to having that close knit family atmosphere. I came to Pima Medical and immediately felt at home. My instructor was there to direct me and provide whatever I needed to be confident and successful. My training allowed me to easily transition into my externship at Tucson Medical Center and before I had even finished, they offered me a position. Immediately after graduation I enrolled in Pima Medical's Online Health Care Administration associate of applied science degree program and have recently graduated from the bachelor's program. I have been able to work fulltime, spend time with my family and complete my homework each day for my online classes. The instructors are flexible and easy to reach for guidance and I've had a great experience. I almost didn't notice I wasn't in a classroom setting. I am currently a Pharmacy Tech 2 and, as a result of getting my bachelor's, I am being trained to cover and assist our buyers. I love my new career and it's very fulfilling! My dream job ... coming back to Pima Medical as an instructor!

After graduating from high school, I attended UTEP (University of Texas at El Paso) but despite attempting a number of majors, I still didn't have a plan. The thing that brought me joy was volunteering at the shelter where I adopted my dog. I really loved working with the animals and it made me realize that's what I was meant to do. I began researching schools with a veterinary program around El Paso and found Pima Medical Institute and enrolled in the Veterinary Assistant program. I cannot tell you how excited and joyful I was to finally start on a path to a career I knew I would love! I had a great experience during my 9-month program. My instructor was wonderful and I received lots of hands-on practice. I was placed in Boerne, near San Antonio, at the Cibolo Creek Veterinary Hospital for my externship and before I left to head back to El Paso, they offered me a position! After almost three years as a Veterinary Assistant I decided to continue my education and enrolled in the Veterinary Technician program, this time at the Pima Medical in San Antonio. I have been learning so much and am enjoying getting exposure in different areas like exotics and livestock. I appreciate my instructors sharing their experiences and providing hands-on instruction. I plan to graduate later this year. I love the veterinary field and I am so thankful to Pima Medical for providing a path to a great career that I love!

I have overcome unusual circumstances and outright hardship to graduate from the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program at Pima Medical Institute. I began my OTA program homeless and penniless. A divorce necessitated looking for a new place to live in the weeks prior to school and plans to live with a friend fell through the weekend before school started. I was scrambling to find a domestic violence shelter for my three kids and myself, when at the last minute my brother a disabled veteran, offered his one bedroom apartment where we could stay with him. We all learned what you can accomplish with dedication, hard work, sacrifice and family support. After a grueling 35-mile commute to and from my children's school, each day I helped with their homework, did my homework and scraped together a meal, which we ate on the floor in the tight quarters where I slept on the couch and my kids on the floor. We had no Wi-Fi so I was forced to do most of my homework either on campus or at a library. The support of my brother and my children allowed me to successfully complete the program, but it wasn't easy. At times it felt like Pima Medical was the only positive thing in my life and it kept me going. I'm so grateful to my instructors who were so supportive of me. I had no money to give my kids Christmas gifts that first year so they arranged to provide presents for my children. I have recently moved into an adequate place for my kids and we've begun to rebuild our lives. My graduation has been a source of pride and relief for myself and my children. I really enjoyed my clinical experiences and can see myself in a position as a pediatric COTA. I have always dreamt of completing my bachelor's degree, so recently I enrolled in Pima Medical's online Bachelor of Science in Health Care of Administration program. My kids and I have learned that anything worth doing is worth sacrificing for.

My mother had a neuromuscular disease called Myasthenia Gravis, which resulted in her needing to be intubated and trached throughout her life, so I was familiar with respiratory. At age 19, I started my career path in the medical field as a transporter at Sunrise Hospital. As I worked with and observed the Respiratory Therapists (RT), I began to understand the importance of their profession. I knew then, this was the career for me, so I enrolled in Pima Medical Institute's RT program. I appreciated the support from both administration and instructors and their belief that I could become a productive member of the RT community. My classmates provided support throughout the rigorous program and there was a great camaraderie among us. I remember having study sessions, gatherings, and cookouts in the parking lot with the faculty, staff and students. Having the opportunity to work in professional clinical settings while in school provided the perspective I needed and upon graduation, I was promoted to a full-time Respiratory Therapist at my hospital. I also worked with University Medical Center (UMC). I continued my education in Pima Medical's Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT) and then went on to complete my Master's Degree in Business Administration at Columbia Southern University. I am still employed with UMC as their Senior Respiratory Therapist and I have been a Clinical Instructor for Pima Medical Institute's Las Vegas Campus since 2016. My eventual goal is to move into hospital administration becoming a VP or COO. I am very thankful for Pima Medical Institute. Anything worth having is worth working for, and true education is what you are willing to put into it whether you're at Yale, Harvard or Pima Medical. Therefore, always attempt to set the standard of excellence in everything you do and everything you love.

I have always had an interest in the medical field, but had no idea where to begin. My brother went to Pima Medical Institute for the Veterinary Technician program, which led me to look into the school. After my first tour, I knew it was the place for me and I enrolled in the Medical Assistant (MA) program. My student experience was amazing! I had fantastic instructors and got so much hands-on experience in such a short amount of time. At first, it was difficult to balance full-time school while working, but I loved what I was learning so much that putting in the work was something I was more than willing to do. I loved getting to practice my hands-on skills with my classmates. Doing things like injections and blood draws on real people truly prepares you for real patients. I graduated from Pima Medical with a 4.0 GPA, and as soon as I started to apply for jobs, the offers were rolling in! I ultimately chose to work at University of Washington Medical Center because it seemed like the best opportunity for me, and it definitely has been. Since graduating, I have been working at UW for the last year. I have learned so much and have never been more confident in a job. Getting my education at Pima Medical Institute was truly one of the best decisions I have ever made. It prepared me so much for my future and made stepping into a new role a piece of cake. I would highly recommend Pima Medical to others seeking to change their lives.

When I first walked through the doors of Pima Medical Institute, life was a challenge! My husband was out of work, and we, along with our six-month-old baby, were living with his mother. Plus, I had dropped out of school at 5th grade and since my mother wasn't familiar with homeschooling, I taught myself at home through high school. Today, after completing four programs, we own a beautiful home, and our now eight-year-old daughter is thriving. Our lives have completely transformed. I'm a 5th grade dropout with a master's degree - nothing is impossible if you really want it. I began with the nine-month Medical Assistant (MA) program. Balancing full-time work and school was tough-I cried many times on my drive to class-but I never gave up. I was determined to build a better life for my family. That determination drove me to continue my education, earning my associate degree in Health Care Administration (HCA), a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration (BSHCA), and eventually a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (MSOL). Throughout this journey, I've worked and gone to school simultaneously. Thanks to the education and skills I gained at Pima Medical, I've never struggled to find opportunities. In fact, I've had the privilege of being selective about my career path. I've grown from being an MA to a referral coordinator, and now, I'm in my first management position-a role I secured a month before earning my master's degree. Each program at Pima Medical played a crucial role in my career progression. My master's degree, in particular, has been invaluable. As a clinic manager building a new practice from scratch, I've relied on the knowledge I gained every step of the way. Thank you, Pima Medical Institute, for changing my life and helping me achieve my dreams. If only my first instructor, Ms. Lakeeta Garfield, could see me now. So often her words - "Be thorough," have run through my mind. I have strived to be thorough in everything I do and I have been successful.

My journey into health care began with the encouragement of my aunt, Marie Defede, who worked in admissions at Pima Medical Institute's Chula Vista campus. Inspired by her support, I enrolled in the Medical Assistant program in 2002 and graduated in 2003, a decision that forever changed my life. Shortly after, I started working at Scripps Anderson's Clinic in La Jolla as a medical assistant in the Sports Orthopedic Department. I had the unique opportunity to support the San Diego Padres Baseball Team. That fast-paced environment taught me the importance of clinical accuracy, teamwork and compassionate patient care. Wanting to give back, I returned to Pima Medical as an instructor, teaching Medical Assistant front and back office skills, Medical Administrative courses and Career Preparation. Helping students grow was deeply fulfilling, and in 2010, I was honored as Pima Medical's Peak Performer for my dedication to education and mentorship. My career expanded beyond clinical work when I transitioned into the biopharmaceutical sector. I worked with Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer, focusing on clinical operations, system optimization and compliance in regulated environments. Alongside my career, I advanced my education. I earned an Associate Degree in Health Care Administration in 2010, a B.S. in Health Care Administration in 2013 and then a M.S. in Health Administration. I am currently completing a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership, with a focus on inclusive leadership and healthcare transformation. Today, I serve as a Clinical Business Systems Analyst, leading projects in organizational development, system implementation and process improvement. Beyond my career, I am a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ communities, patient rights and underserved populations. Pima Medical was where it all began. It provided the foundation, support and mentorship I needed to pursue a fulfilling career in healthcare and leadership. I will always be proud to say my journey started at PMI.

My mom spent more than 25 years as an instructor at the Tucson campus and encouraged me to explore what Pima Medical Institute had to offer. I was initially drawn to Physical Therapy, but as I learned more, I discovered Occupational Therapy. During my entrance interview for the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program, everything about the profession resonated with me. Ten years later, I have no doubt that this is my calling. The OTA program demanded a high level of self-accountability. I had to learn when to use the resources available, how to ask for help and how to grow through discomfort. The growing pains were worth it. My cohort became my biggest support system and those relationships have turned into lifelong friendships. I truly appreciated being held to a higher standard throughout the program. The structure and expectations prepared me to deliver quality healthcare right out of school. The professionalism required of every student helps ensure graduates are not only ready to pass certification exams and succeed as clinicians, but also stand out when applying for jobs. Thanks to that preparation, I was offered a position during my second fieldwork rotation and hired as soon as I completed my certification requirements. Since then, I've been fortunate to explore many settings, roles and opportunities throughout my career. I've worked primarily with pediatric and young adult populations, serving my community through outpatient clinics, home health and school settings. I'm currently continuing my education with a bachelor's degree and plan to become a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT). I would absolutely recommend Pima Medical to others. The OTA program prepares you to be more than just job-ready. It gives you the foundation to build a meaningful and lasting career in healthcare.
