After 15 years of employment with company I planned to retire from, I was let go due to the economic meltdown. I decided to go back to school and chose PMI. My biggest obstacle was overcoming my own lack of self-confidence. My first days as a student were very hectic, not only did I have to learn the course content, but I also had to learn how to become a student all over again. In the end, it was very rewarding and I had this overwhelming feeling of accomplishment that I had been missing in my life.
I arrived at each of my clinical sites with the motivation, drive and determination to become a medical professional. I was hired immediately after graduation at New Mexico Orthopedics and on my first day there, I received a phone call from The University of New Mexico Hospital. Based on my performance there as a student, they wanted to know if I would be interested in a position. I went from being a student to having two jobs within 30 days after graduation. I couldn't have been happier!
With the knowledge obtained through my work experience, I have recently moved into the Interventional Radiology department at UNMH. I've also recently completed my Bachelors of Radiologic Science through PMI's online program. I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to all of my instructors for believing in me and always encouraging me. I would definitely recommend PMI to anyone who is planning to go back to school or is in need of a change in their life.

My journey into health care began with an interest in nursing, but I soon realized it didn't align with my personality. A shadowing opportunity in a Radiology department, arranged by my mother, confirmed my passion for radiography. I chose Pima Medical Institute's Radiography associate degree program and had exceptional experience as a student.
The program's blend of didactic and clinical training thoroughly prepared me for my career. I viewed each clinical rotation as a job interview, especially my fourth-semester placement. I worked hard to impress the staff by demonstrating the skills I had learned and I earned a job offer at the same hospital, where I continue to work.
Currently, I serve as the Director of Diagnostic Imaging at Canyon Vista Medical Center. Since graduating from Pima Medical's Radiography program 13 years ago, I have had the privilege of precepting students from various programs across Arizona and California. Among them, Pima Medical students consistently stand out. They arrive at their first clinical rotation with strong positioning skills and the confidence to image patients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics.
Pima Medical not only equipped me with essential skills but also instilled confidence and set me on a path to success.

I completed the Veterinary Assistant program at Pima Medical Institute in 2012. Prior to that I had finished high school and was working, but just didn't really know what I wanted to do with my life. I love animals and I love to learn, so when I heard about Pima's VA program on the radio, I decided to give it a try.
I was quite nervous when I started, but the teachers were really supportive. We had lots of discussion about what we were learning and tons of hands on practice. It was a really good learning environment for me.
I ended up being hired at my externship site. It was great to transition from my experience there as a student to then growing into my job. I'm actually still working there and I'm still learning. This is one of the reasons I decided to come back to PMI for their Veterinary Technician program, because I want to grow and learn more. Becoming a Veterinary Technician opens so many doors and this program really immerses you in the field. In fact, I don't know of a better program! It's not easy and it's very accelerated, but it's worth it!

I recommend PMI to anyone who is interested in going back to school and walking out with a career.
I chose their Medical Administrative Assistant program because I didn't really want to physically touch people but I wanted to touch them and help them in other ways. It was a challenging accelerated program but the instructors were very helpful. I wasn't used to being in school and juggling my son and my job, but I learned quickly that I couldn't afford to miss class. I appreciated the hands on work in each course and learned so much during my externship at a busy family clinic with multiple providers.
Currently, I am the front office administrator at a mental health facility. We are in the process of expanding, so I've been able to put my skills to use getting new contracts and training our new clinicians. I know the skills and knowledge I obtained while at PMI really prepared me for this position. Down the road I'd like to continue my education with PMI's online program to get my degree in Health Care Administration.
I really have nothing but good things to say about PMI. From the front desk people, to admissions/financial aid, my instructors, and, finally, the career services advisors who helped me put my resume together, it was such a great experience.

Both of my parents have careers in the medical field and my older sister was working as an X-ray technologist's assistant at the same hospital. I had many broken bones as a kid and recall getting many X-rays, but when my sister started talking about what happens behind the scenes in her department, I started considering a career as a radiologic technologist. Both my sister and my mom encouraged me toward the Radiography program at Pima Medical Institute.
It is a robust program for sure. It was super challenging for me and required a lot of study. But, the instructors were very knowledgeable and encouraging. I formed great relationships with my classmates; we became quite close and helped each other get through the program.
It was quite intimidating to walk into my clinicals. Although I was well prepared and had help from the technologists, it was quite overwhelming to be in trauma situations and be interacting with nurses and doctors in real life situations. I worked really hard in my final round of my clinicals at Sharp Memorial Hospital and a couple months after graduation, I was hired as a radiologic technologist. I spend the majority of my time in the ER and I really enjoy my current job, but may consider a position in mammography in the future.
I want to thank Pima Medical and especially my instructor, Dr. Schmidt, who was so helpful and supportive. I was in a terrible car accident during the program and without her guidance I may not have been able to finish my program. I am 23-years-old, I have a career in the medical field and I am really proud of myself.

Before enrolling in the Pharmacy Technician program at Pima Medical Institute, I was constantly stressed about not succeeding in life. I had been working a dead-end job for several years, I couldn't provide for my wife and felt like my life had no endgame. After hearing a radio ad for Pima Medical, I prayed for a decision and decided to enroll.
When I spoke with my financial aid advisor he told me I needed to graduate with honors. I didn't know what that meant, so I looked it up and learned it meant graduating with at least a 3.5 GPA and that became my goal. I commuted 90 minutes each way, attended afternoon classes, and after that I worked an 8-hour night shift. But, I am proud to say I graduated with a 3.85 GPA! In 2012 I sustained a terrible brain injury and although I had a miraculous recovery, I still forget things and struggle with anxiety. My success is the result of attending a school run by some of the most compassionate people I have ever met. My instructor became like a mentor to me.
I'm 31 years old and I have questionable episodes in my past including some misdemeanors. I was initially denied my fingerprint security card and I had to file a good cause exception. My career services advisor, who helped me through the process said, "This is what determination will get you. You will succeed!" I carried that with me through the rest of my program. My primary motivation was to gain a new career and a less stressful situation for my wife and I. Pima Medical turned out to be a great decision. I already have a job lined up that will be the fresh new start I've been looking for.

During my teenage years I had the privilege of being present for my little brother and sister's births. When I watched the nurses and saw their level of involvement in labor and delivery, I decided that I wanted to be a nurse.
Once I finished high school, my mom encouraged me to enroll in the Practical Nursing (LPN) program at Pima Medical Institute. It was intimidating and a big challenge for me coming right from high school. I struggled and ended up failing a class. Some told me I should just drop out of the program, but I used that as fuel to come back even stronger. The instructors helped and pushed me, and although I struggled, I completed the program in 2019.
Unfortunately, I failed my first attempt at the licensing exam (NCLEX) and I was devastated. I had not prepared as I should have and proceeded to fail the second time as well. It was so difficult and I wanted to give up. It was my wake-up call to accept help, so when one of my instructors called and offered help, I was willing. For two months they helped me prepare and boosted my confidence and when I finally passed, I broke into tears. It was a very long wait, but I did it!
For the last three years I've worked in behavioral health, long-term care, acute and skilled nursing. Recently, Lovelace Hospital decided to hire LPNs for the very first time and they have offered me a medical-surgical position. They told me I am the first ever LPN to be hired by the hospital and said that I am a pioneer in my field.
I'm so thankful for Pima Medical and the instructors who believed in me. I love what I do; I just bought my first home, I hope to continue my education and I am excited about my new hospital position.

I was injured while playing soccer in high school and my physical therapist said to me, "I think you'd be a really good physical therapist!" I tucked that away until I was at Texas State University heading toward becoming a nurse when I realized it just wasn't for me. I switched to Exercise Sports Science with a pre-physical therapy emphasis. After graduation, the doctorate physical therapy programs were extremely competitive and I just didn't have the confidence to apply - still a regret. Instead, I reviewed my options and began searching for a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program and found Pima Medical Institute.
It was a challenging, accelerated 18-month program, but my instructors were super motivating. Although they were hard on us, they gave us all the tools needed to be the best professional clinicians we could be. I was awarded the most "outstanding student" at graduation and offered a job at each of my clinical rotations. I began my therapist journey as a pediatric PTA until I found the place I really loved; working in sports medicine and rehabilitation. During my five plus years in orthopedics, I worked with multiple students as a clinical instructor. This drew my passion for education and I began my journey as a clinical director and instructor back at the same PTA program I'd attended. I tell my students I've been down their same path and I am going to give them everything they need to be a success in their clinical experience. I remind them that I am invested in their success because not only is Pima Medical's reputation on the line, so is mine as a graduate of this program.
Pima Medical provided what I needed to become a great therapist and for that I am thankful. I believe I've found my place in education and I am hoping to further my education through the master's degree program in the future.

After moving from Texas to Colorado for a fresh start, I was determined to build a stable career in the medical field. Research led me to Pima Medical Institute, and from the moment I began speaking with admissions, I knew it was the right choice. Despite facing many challenges, I embarked on the Medical Assistant (MA) program with unwavering determination.
I started living in my car three weeks after starting the MA program. I was juggling homelessness, school and a full-time job. I struggled finding safe places to park, hot and cold nights, and finding time between work and school to do homework, sleep and get to the gym to take showers. I found incredible support from caring and understanding instructors who became like family to me. They provided resources and encouragement, helping me navigate the toughest moments. As difficult as my situation was, school was my biggest motivation and the people at Pima Medical were my support and prepared me for my future. Thanks to great instructors and comprehensive training, I excelled at my externship at Advanced Urgent Care, impressing my supervisors enough to secure a job offer before even graduating.
To my instructors at Pima Medical, I owe a debt of gratitude. I am the person I am today because of you. Your unwavering support and belief in me kept me going when times were toughest. Thank you for never giving up on me. You've shaped me into the professional I am today and I will forever be grateful.

Growing up I'd always had my heart set on healthcare and my dream was to become a nurse. Despite being a good student initially, family issues led me to drop out of high school. I eventually got my GED and completed a nursing assistant program through Job Corps. Life threw more challenges my way, including a young marriage, poor partner choice and raising five children as a single mother.
After seeing advertisements for Pima Medical Institute, I was drawn to enroll in the Medical Assistant (MA) evening program. Balancing work, school and motherhood was tough, but I persevered for nine months. I began my new career in urgent care and later pediatrics, where I've been ever since. After a few years, Pima Medical reached out encouraging me to pursue an online Health Care Administration (HCA) associate degree. This degree opened more career doors for me. Today, I am a Lead Medical Assistant at Phoenix Children's Hospital, working with the Homeless Youth Outreach Department. I wear many hats, including clinical lead, Spanish interpreter and vaccine coordinator. Recently, I enrolled in an accelerated nursing bachelor's program at Grand Canyon University, transferring many Pima Medical credits and moving closer to my dream of becoming a nurse.
Pima Medial provided the foundation for my success. And even today, I always accept their student externs. The difference in skill between their students and others is noticeable. Returning to school as a single mom with five kids was challenging, but it was worth it. Many feel stuck in minimum wage jobs, but education can change that. Though it's tough initially, the long-term benefits include better job opportunities and more time with family. My journey was hard, but Pima Medical Institute was the key to my success. With determination and effort, you can achieve your dreams too.

Pima Medical Institute has been a cornerstone in my career, providing a foundation that has endured through different stages of my life. Now, I'm excited to return to school and build on that strong base.
No one in my family is in the dental field, but I've always had a passion for becoming a dental hygienist. After high school, I spent five years working in Alaska's fishing industry. Upon returning to Seattle, I inquired about the Dental Hygiene program at Pima Medical Institute and ultimately enrolled in the Dental Assistant program. Balancing full-time work during the day with evening classes at Pima Medical was challenging but rewarding. My teacher was great, and I formed lasting friendships-I'm still close with one of my classmates more than 20 years later.
My first job was with a doctor in West Seattle, where I worked for two years before needing to go on bed rest due to pregnancy. I took a 15-year break to focus on being a mom. Remarkably, I was able to jump right back into my career as a Dental Assistant when I was ready. After moving to Phoenix, I started working as a temp and then secured my current position at Anthem Sonoran Valley Implants and Dental Center. It felt like riding a bike-everything came back to me. I love educating patients and helping them take care of their teeth. Currently, I'm in the process of applying to a Dental Hygiene program in my area. I want to further my education in the dental field and one day I hope to be able to clean teeth for free to help people who can't afford dental care.
Pima Medical Institute has been supportive throughout my journey, from enrolling and securing financing to ongoing assistance whenever I need it. I'm incredibly grateful for the education and opportunities Pima Medical has provided me.

At age 19, I started at Pima Medical Institute after realizing that my initial path at UNM wasn't the right fit for me at that time. A friend suggested looking into CT technology, and after some research, I found that Pima Medical's Radiography (RAD) program offered a quicker and more fitting path to my career goals. The structured environment in the RAD program was exactly what I needed, although it wasn't always easy. My father passed away during my second semester, which made it tough to stay on track, but with the support of the school, I persevered. The clinical experiences were mostly positive, giving me valuable hands-on learning. Even in challenging situations, I gained skills by working independently, which proved to be great learning experiences.
Graduating in 2004, I entered the workforce during a tech shortage and quickly landed a job. I started in x-ray and, over the years, expanded my expertise by becoming registered in mammography, bone density, and MRI. However, I chose to focus on mammography, as it offered a better work-life balance compared to MRI.
After a decade at a hospital, I transitioned to a quieter clinic setting where I could work more independently, which suits me well. I've been at a small clinic for nearly a year now, enjoying the stability and better hours. Alongside my career, I'm also completing my bachelor's degree in university studies, thanks to a state program offering free classes to those close to finishing their degree.
Looking ahead, I'm content with where I am but open to new opportunities, possibly in management. Pima Medical set me up for success, giving me the tools I needed to start and grow my career in radiology. Now 20 years later, I'm grateful for the education and experiences that have brought me to where I am today.
