I once dreamt of a high power job working on the top floor of a sky scraper. I graduated with my bachelor's and obtained a good position with a fortune 500 company where I learned valuable information, but felt unfulfilled. I had a desire to help people and make a difference, so when my mother suggested looking into occupational therapy I jumped in feet first.
I enrolled in Pima Medical Institute's Occupational Therapy Assistant program because their accelerated curriculum, class schedule and location fit my needs. My experience was quite different than my bachelor's had been, in that the instructors had on-the-job experience and there was significantly more hands-on learning. As students, we were encouraged to become involved in the OT community and I continue to play an active role by holding board positions and sitting on ad hoc committees in our state associations. Through networking, I received a position in subacute rehabilitation and worked my way into management.
Currently, I am an OTA instructor back at the PMI campus where I once attended. It wasn't that long ago I sat in those same chairs and, consequently, I understand the challenges and pressures my students face. I didn't just find a job; I found a profession and a career I am proud of and extremely happy to support on a daily basis. I am thankful to PMI for the education I received and now for the opportunity to continue to educate others in the OTA profession. I'm not in a sky scraper (although my office is on the 5th floor) but I love my job!

I wasn't completely sure about going back to school until I walked through the doors at Pima Medical Institute. From the moment I took the tour and sat down for the exam, Admissions Representative Mary Mikiel made me feel welcomed and encouraged. I don't love taking tests, but her support and positive energy truly made a difference that day. A few days later, she called to tell me I had only missed one question - and that I was officially accepted into the Medical Assistant program.
Starting the program, I connected quickly with my classmates and discovered a great sense of community. My instructors were not only knowledgeable, but genuinely invested in my success. There were five of us who graduated together, and that experience gave me newfound confidence in myself. I was working full time while attending school, and although it wasn't easy, I proved to myself that I could push through the ups and downs and make it to graduation day. I started working at a fast-paced urgent care where everything I learned at Pima Medical came flooding back like second nature.
After about a year of hard work, I was encouraged to apply for a higher position. I'm proud to say I am now the Center Manager at Carbon Health Carlsbad. None of this would have been possible without the incredible support and encouragement I received from the staff and instructors at Pima Medical. They believed in me when I didn't fully believe in myself and constantly pushed me to grow. For that, I will always be grateful. Pima Medical Institute didn't just prepare me for a career, they helped me believe in myself.

Ultimately healthcare is what I always wanted to do, but I had never gotten around to it as life kept getting in the way. I was working at a print shop and was a father to two children with a third on the way. My father approached me one day about my dream to be in healthcare and he challenged me to pursue it. He plainly said, "It's either now or never." He drove me to PMI and I filled out the application, interviewed and was accepted into the Respiratory Therapy program. My instructors were prepared, knowledgeable and enthusiastic and prepared me to succeed. My parents were my rock and helped me balanced school, work and family.
I have had a great deal of experience in our field; I've earned my bachelor's degree and hope to pursue a masters in Healthcare Administration in the near future. I have had the blessed opportunity to train and grow within the field of Respiratory Therapy which includes treating patients of all ages, education and department management. I am currently the director of Respiratory Therapy, Patient Experience, Pastoral Care and Volunteer Services at a hospital in southern Arizona. It is with a heart full of respect, love and gratitude that I share my story as PMI has taught me how to not only clinically care for our patients and their families but to also do it in a manner that is individualized, respectful and compassionate. In 1996 I made a decision to reach for higher goals. I left my job as a salesman at an upholstery shop and began working toward a degree in Radiography at the PMI Tucson campus. The day I took the assessment test for entry into the program, I noticed a poster with a picture of a PMI graduate, hand raised in the air and wearing an honors sash. I made a promise to myself that I, too, would graduate with honors. Two years later I became the first member of my family to complete college, and I graduated at the top of my class. I was immediately hired at St. Mary's Hospital, where I performed all aspects of diagnostic radiography, eventually earning a position as CT technologist. After 2 years I was hired in Benson, AZ where I served as Clinical Instructor and Chief Technologist.
After 3 years I again made a decision to reach for a higher goal. I had always dreamed of becoming a teacher in radiologic sciences and I accepted a position as a full-time instructor at Pima Medical Institute and enrolled in an online Bachelor's degree program in Radiologic Science. In 2006 I was appointed to the position of Program Director at PMI, and I am currently completing my Masters in Education. PMI provided me with a strong foundation on which to build and gave me the confidence to reach even higher. It was the catalyst that helped me achieve more than I ever thought possible.

I was a stay at home mom for 18 years. When my oldest child headed to college I felt like I had lost my identity and purpose, but I just wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I knew I didn't want to be behind a desk and I enjoyed being on my feet and using my hands. So when I saw the commercial for the Dental Assisting Program and Pima Medical Institute, I decided it might be a fit for me.
It was somewhat intimidating going back to school when I was the oldest student in the class and it was certainly challenging having homework again while balancing family and home life. But, my instructor was helpful and cheered me on.
I felt very prepared, although extremely nervous, for my hands on externship experience. But I learned so much and it helped me understand that I really wanted to work in a specialty area of dentistry. I was initially hired at a general practice but soon found the place I really belonged; a periodontist office. I absolutely love it! I enjoy meeting and getting to know my patients. I have great coworkers and wonderful doctors who continue to teach me about their specialty. I love it all and am so happy!
Pima Medical has been so good in helping me go from "what's my purpose?" to "this is where I should be!" Finding that out and being happy where I am has been everything. It has done so much for me! Plus, my kids are really proud of me.

I was a physical therapist assistant looking to further my physical therapy knowledge when I received a mailing about Pima Medical Institute's Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapist Assistant online program. Returning to school after being out for 25 years was an adjustment. It was difficult to organize my time and prioritizing time specifically for school and studying, but I had a great experience as a student. During the program I had a death in my family and was dealing with chronic migraines, but my instructors were very understanding and helped me push through and finish strong.
Soon after completing my bachelor's, I accepted a part-time faculty position at Lehigh Carbon Community College's physical therapist assistant program while continuing to work per diem as a physical therapist assistant. I furthered my education with a master's degree in healthcare education from Washburn University and I am currently enrolled at A.T. Still University's doctorate program in healthcare education. My future goals are to become full-time faculty or obtain an administrative position.
I really appreciated Pima Medical's bachelor's program. The courses were very inclusive and helped prepare me for my master and doctorate programs. All of my instructors were amazing and helped me with my future studies. I have recommended Pima Medical Institute's program to others and will continue to do so.

My journey with Pima Medical Institute began unexpectedly while working at Chipotle to fund my dream of attending Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) school. A co-worker there who was attending Pima Medical told me about the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program. I had never heard of a PTA before, but I was intrigued and secured an interview the following week and was accepted into the program in early 2012. The deciding factors were the program's affordability and the expedited entry into a career in the medical field.
The PTA program proved demanding, surpassing the rigor of my previous bachelor's degree. Juggling a full-time job alongside the intensive program was challenging, but I knew I had to take my school work seriously in order to be successful in my new career. One thing I appreciated was how dedicated the instructor team was at helping each student be successful. The supportive environment allowed for unlimited questions and open hours on non-class days, facilitating additional preparation for exams.
I secured my first job with Children's Hospital Colorado, despite the advertised requirement of three years of experience. Since 2014, I have been dedicated to Inpatient Rehab Physical Therapist at the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. I have also had the privilege of being a Colorado State Physical Therapy Board member since 2019, serving as Vice President for three years (2020, 2021, 2024). Additionally, I contribute to the Advisory Board for Pima Medical's PTA program at the Denver Campus.
My gratitude to my former instructors knows no bounds. Their support, starting from granting me a chance, has been unwavering even a decade after completing the program. I whole heartedly endorse Pima Medical Institute, confident in the transformative journey it offers to aspiring health professionals.

As a proud Pima Medical Institute BSRT graduate, my journey from an associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy (RT), to a bachelor's degree, to achieving my dream job as a Critical Care Transport Respiratory Therapist at Children's Mercy has been nothing short of remarkable. While in school for my associate's at Concorde College, they highly encouraged us to continue our education and recommended Pima Medical's online Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT). I knew a bachelor's would increase my salary and would also be helpful for future supervisory or management positions. The flexibility of online classes made it manageable for me to work full-time at Salem Health, a level II trauma center with a level III NICU, while pursuing my degree.
My dream of working in medical transport began at age 17, when I was a volunteer patient for the local fire department and experienced being flighted out of our neighborhood. After years of experience as an RT, I landed my dream job. As a Critical Care Transport RT, I participate in various types of transports, from helicopters and fixed wing, to jets and ground transportation, proving support to hospitals nationwide. Children's Mercy in Kansas City is one of the busiest transport teams, covering a wide range of patients including neonates, pediatrics, maternal and fetal cases. Working with limited resources challenges me to think on my feet and be creative with patient care. The transport team, comprised of brilliant minds, requires continuous education, certifications, and simulations to improve patient care. During my downtime, I enjoy visiting former patients and their families and witnessing their progress.
I love to do PR at community events where I hope to inspire young girls to pursue a fulfilling career in healthcare. I'm appreciative for the role Pima Medical played in shaping my success and making my dream job a reality.

When I got braces in high school, I was fascinated by how something so simple could transform a person's smile-and their confidence. That experience sparked my interest in the dental field, and after researching options, I found Pima Medical Institute's Dental Assistant (DA) program. I enrolled right after high school and jumped into the program.
My instructors were incredible! I never considered myself a standout student, but the hands-on learning style was perfect for me. I learned so much, and when it came time for my externship, it felt like a breeze because I was so prepared. They even offered me a job as soon as I finished, and I worked there happily until I moved out of state.
Since graduating in 2011, I've worked in every part of a dental office-from assisting to managing the front desk to being an office manager. Today, I'm a mom of two fast-growing kids, and I want more flexibility to be with them, so I'm going back to school for billing and coding. This will allow me to continue working in the dental field from home.
I love the dental field because I get to make a difference-helping patients find relief from pain or transforming their smiles - and I'm excited about the next chapter in my dental career. Pima Medical is an amazing place with caring instructors and I would choose it all over again. It's changed my life.

I grew up in an unsupportive environment, constantly reminded of my limitations. After dabbling in community college and an unfinished nursing program, I found myself divorced with two young children, wondering what I could do to provide for my family. That's when I discovered Pima Medical Institute and enrolled in the Medical Secretary program. Within three months, I graduated and landed a job in the medical field, giving me the stability I desperately needed. After moving to Las Vegas, I continued to grow my career-first as an office manager and later doing billing. One day, I learned that Pima Medical was launching a Respiratory Therapy program. I jumped at the chance to enroll, excited to take my career to the next level.
Balancing school, work, and motherhood was tough. My kids and I would do homework together, and I showed them it's never too late to change your path. After graduating, I was hired at Summerlin Hospital, where I worked for 14 years. Watching the devastation in New York, when the pandemic hit in 2020, I knew I had to step up and help. I was hired as a traveler at New York Presbyterian Cornell, one of the top hospitals in the country. It was intense-over 230 patients on ventilators when I arrived -but I learned and grew through it all. While on the frontlines, I was also pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy through Pima Medical. I faced moments of doubt, but with the support of my program director, I pushed through. My son and I graduated with our bachelor's degrees in the same year-a moment of immense pride for my family.
I now work for the Nevada Donor Network, a new and upcoming field for RT's, turning tragedy into hope through organ donation. I feel a deep sense of purpose, knowing that I help give families a second chance. Thanks to Pima Medical, I've built a career that I love, and I'll never stop learning or growing.

When my children were heading off to college, I realized it was my turn to invest in myself. I wanted a career that aligned with my passions-health, fitness and helping people-while also offering job stability and global opportunities. Becoming a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) checked all the boxes, and after researching different programs, Pima Medical Institute stood out as the perfect fit for my timeline and lifestyle.
Going back to school after 15 years as a stay-at-home soccer mom was the hardest thing I've ever done. The fast-paced, condensed program challenged me academically, and the commute from Tacoma to North Seattle meant long days followed by even longer nights of studying. But Pima Medical provided endless support-faculty were always available, and I took advantage of every extra lab and hands-on practice session. They held us to high standards because patients deserve the best, not just someone getting by.
After graduation, I started at an orthopedic outpatient clinic, later transitioning to Olympic Sports and Spine, where I earned my orthopedic sports certification and became a Certified Lymphatic Therapist. Eventually, I sought a setting that allowed more personalized patient care, leading me to a private practice where I now enjoy one-on-one treatment sessions. I plan to retire here.
Pima Medical gave me the knowledge, confidence, and professionalism to succeed. Even after graduating, I've stayed connected with my instructors, who were always honest, supportive and dedicated. My career allows me to keep learning and growing, and for that, I'm forever grateful.

My journey into health care began with an interest in nursing, but I soon realized it didn't align with my personality. A shadowing opportunity in a Radiology department, arranged by my mother, confirmed my passion for radiography. I chose Pima Medical Institute's Radiography associate degree program and had exceptional experience as a student.
The program's blend of didactic and clinical training thoroughly prepared me for my career. I viewed each clinical rotation as a job interview, especially my fourth-semester placement. I worked hard to impress the staff by demonstrating the skills I had learned and I earned a job offer at the same hospital, where I continue to work.
Currently, I serve as the Director of Diagnostic Imaging at Canyon Vista Medical Center. Since graduating from Pima Medical's Radiography program 13 years ago, I have had the privilege of precepting students from various programs across Arizona and California. Among them, Pima Medical students consistently stand out. They arrive at their first clinical rotation with strong positioning skills and the confidence to image patients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics.
Pima Medical not only equipped me with essential skills but also instilled confidence and set me on a path to success.
