After my divorce in 2013, I was going from job to job, tired of being laid off and unable to provide stability for myself and my children I decided it was time to find a career. I had attended 4 different community colleges prior to getting married, but never finished a degree. After researching, I found Pima Medical Institute's Radiography program and enrolled. I didn't realize at the time that it would change my life. It wasn't easy. When I started the program I was working a 12 hour night shift at the post office, getting my kids off to school, sleeping for a few hours and then attending class and before heading back to work. But I had a goal, something I didn't have at the community colleges I'd attended. I was able to be successful because of the structure of the Radiography program at Pima Medical. I knew my classes, my schedule and the expectations. The instructors were amazingly supportive and encouraging. In fact, this experience completely changed me as a person because my instructors fed my confidence. I am so proud that as a 37 year old single mother, I became a Radiologic Technologist. The day I completed and passed my state boards, I came out to my car and found a message from Northwest Hospital asking me to come in for an interview. I love my work and my patients. Pima Medical was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I did it for me, but I've set a great example for my children. You always hear "if I can do it, so can you" and this statement is absolutely true!

I was at a place in my life where I just didn't know what I wanted. One day after driving past the sign for Pima Medical Institute I walked in and enrolled in their Medical Administrative Assistant program. It was a rough time for me. My mom, who I was living with, became very ill with stomach cancer and I had to care for her. In fact, I almost quit, but thankfully the instructors at Pima Medical supported me and encouraged me to not give up. She passed away right before graduation but I not only finished, I graduated with honors. I have been employed at a mental health clinic for about three years now and I believe I have found my calling. I am the senior intake and I take on all the hard patients; dealing with bipolar and schizophrenia in adults and severe autism in children. I am able to calm the patients and make the parents feel comfortable. I feel like it's my calling. Pima Medical invited me to be on their advisory board and I was able to give my input about the need for education surrounding the mental health field. Today, I have four Pima Medical students completing their externships at my clinic. They are often nervous at first, but it's exciting to give students exposure to a different area of the medical field. I want to thank Pima Medical for giving me the tools I needed to succeed. I loved how the teachers cared about you as a person. I enjoy going to work every day and I'm excited to continue my education so one day I can operate my own mental health clinic.

Back in 2012, I was a recently separated army medic veteran looking for a career in the medical field. Pima Medical Institute was a well-known school for having excellent training in the Colorado Springs area, so I enrolled in the Medical Assistant (MA) program. I had the best instructor! She was knowledgeable, patient and cared deeply about her students. As I began working in the field, I found many of my coworkers had also been trained by her and it felt good to know I was working alongside others who had a quality education. I loved being an MA and found my place working in oncology. Wanting to build on my education, I enrolled in Pima Medical's Health Care Administration online associate's degree and then continued to the bachelor's program. I was a single mom, working fulltime and going to school and, although it was challenging, I found it to be very manageable. My education helped me understand management's expectations and the theory or the why behind what I was doing. Realizing I was having trouble being on my feet all day, I applied for an administrative position, got the job and soon realized THIS is what I was meant to do. After moving further up into management, I knew I wanted to learn additional skills, so I enrolled in Pima Medical's Master of Science in Organizational Leadership program. I am only in my first class, but I know I'm going to benefit from this program. I encourage my staff to further their education and I find it helps them to be more confident because they understand the why behind their clinical work. Pima Medical Institute instructors were knowledgeable, responsive and understanding and I really appreciated the good quality education I received in ALL (soon to be 4) of my programs.

I was injured while playing soccer in high school and my physical therapist said to me, "I think you'd be a really good physical therapist!" I tucked that away until I was at Texas State University heading toward becoming a nurse when I realized it just wasn't for me. I switched to Exercise Sports Science with a pre-physical therapy emphasis. After graduation, the doctorate physical therapy programs were extremely competitive and I just didn't have the confidence to apply - still a regret. Instead, I reviewed my options and began searching for a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program and found Pima Medical Institute. It was a challenging, accelerated 18-month program, but my instructors were super motivating. Although they were hard on us, they gave us all the tools needed to be the best professional clinicians we could be. I was awarded the most "outstanding student" at graduation and offered a job at each of my clinical rotations. I began my therapist journey as a pediatric PTA until I found the place I really loved; working in sports medicine and rehabilitation. During my five plus years in orthopedics, I worked with multiple students as a clinical instructor. This drew my passion for education and I began my journey as a clinical director and instructor back at the same PTA program I'd attended. I tell my students I've been down their same path and I am going to give them everything they need to be a success in their clinical experience. I remind them that I am invested in their success because not only is Pima Medical's reputation on the line, so is mine as a graduate of this program. Pima Medical provided what I needed to become a great therapist and for that I am thankful. I believe I've found my place in education and I am hoping to further my education through the master's degree program in the future.

I had been working in the medical field for 20 years, as a Medical Assistant, but I wanted more. My desire has always been to go further into nursing, but something always seemed to happen that didn't allow me to continue my education as planned. Finally, in the fall of 2021 I enrolled in the afternoon 12-month Practical Nursing program at Pima Medical Institute. My experience as a student was amazing! I loved my classmates and being a part of a cohort that worked together to the finish. I appreciated all four of my instructors who took the time to help me see past my doubt and worry and helped guide me. They showed me that even as an older student and single mother, I could be successful. As soon as I got word that I passed my National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), I hit the ground running revising my resume and putting in applications. Since then, I have been working full-time as an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) and providing for my 6-year-old daughter. I want to thank my instructors and all the whole staff at Pima Medical. They helped me pursue and continue to be an amazing healthcare provider. I felt very prepared to achieve what I had worked so hard to accomplish and I'm looking forward to continuing my education to become a Registered Nurse (RN) soon.

While initially interested in Dental Hygiene (DH), at age 18, I chose to pursue Dental Assisting (DA) instead, partly because I was hesitant to commit to a university four-year DH program. Later, as I learned about Pima Medical Institute's two-year DH program, my research told me it was highly reputable and very challenging. This both intrigued me and motivated me and I enrolled. During my third semester an unexpected pregnancy brought huge challenges. My baby son was diagnosed with gastroschisis, a high-risk condition requiring frequent medical visits and a 54-day stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Despite the challenges of being a new mother and the emotional strain of the situation, I remained determined to succeed in my studies. I studied and completed assignments while at the NICU, my son serving as my inspiration. He was a reminder of my strength and my determination to never give up on my dreams. My DA employer had been supportive and excited about my becoming a Dental Hygienist and invited me to join their team as a DH upon obtaining my license. I want to express my sincere gratitude to all of my instructors at Pima Medical for their unwavering support during my journey, especially as I navigated the challenges of my son's condition. Each instructor was incredibly helpful and supportive, always striving for my success. I am confident in the quality of education I received and would enthusiastically recommend it to others. While the program is rigorous, it is definitely achievable-I am living proof of that!

Growing up I'd always had my heart set on healthcare and my dream was to become a nurse. Despite being a good student initially, family issues led me to drop out of high school. I eventually got my GED and completed a nursing assistant program through Job Corps. Life threw more challenges my way, including a young marriage, poor partner choice and raising five children as a single mother. After seeing advertisements for Pima Medical Institute, I was drawn to enroll in the Medical Assistant (MA) evening program. Balancing work, school and motherhood was tough, but I persevered for nine months. I began my new career in urgent care and later pediatrics, where I've been ever since. After a few years, Pima Medical reached out encouraging me to pursue an online Health Care Administration (HCA) associate degree. This degree opened more career doors for me. Today, I am a Lead Medical Assistant at Phoenix Children's Hospital, working with the Homeless Youth Outreach Department. I wear many hats, including clinical lead, Spanish interpreter and vaccine coordinator. Recently, I enrolled in an accelerated nursing bachelor's program at Grand Canyon University, transferring many Pima Medical credits and moving closer to my dream of becoming a nurse. Pima Medial provided the foundation for my success. And even today, I always accept their student externs. The difference in skill between their students and others is noticeable. Returning to school as a single mom with five kids was challenging, but it was worth it. Many feel stuck in minimum wage jobs, but education can change that. Though it's tough initially, the long-term benefits include better job opportunities and more time with family. My journey was hard, but Pima Medical Institute was the key to my success. With determination and effort, you can achieve your dreams too.

In 2005, while browsing technical programs online, Pima Medical Institute's Veterinary Assistant (VA) Program caught my eye. I filled out a request for more information and, to my surprise, Niki Riggleman, a recently retired yet highly esteemed instructor, called me immediately. Despite never having had an interest in veterinary medicine before, that call changed my life. I can't imagine being in any other field today and I'm so grateful Niki called me! I completed the VA Program and returned to complete the Veterinary Technician (VT) Program in 2007. It was a privilege to be part of the very first VT class at the Seattle Campus. One aspect of Pima Medical I truly appreciated was its accessibility; the ability to attend night classes and work during the day allowed me to maintain a steady income while pursuing my education. The hands-on classroom experience, combined with working in the field, was crucial to my professional growth. My journey with VCA Animal Hospitals began with my first externship, where I was hired even before completing it. Almost 20 years later, I'm still with VCA and grateful to have found my place there. I worked as a VA, a VT and then quickly moved up to Technician Supervisor and a regional training role. In 2020, I became the Regional Technician Director for the Northwest & Hawaii Group, supporting veterinary teams across five states. Additionally, as the current President of the Washington State Association of Veterinary Technicians (WSAVT) and a former District Chair for the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA), I am dedicated to improving the careers of Veterinary Technicians and Assistants. Ensuring their optimal utilization and safety is crucial to our profession, helping us continue to serve our patients effectively.

I have always had an interest in the medical field, but had no idea where to begin. My brother went to Pima Medical Institute for the Veterinary Technician program, which led me to look into the school. After my first tour, I knew it was the place for me and I enrolled in the Medical Assistant (MA) program. My student experience was amazing! I had fantastic instructors and got so much hands-on experience in such a short amount of time. At first, it was difficult to balance full-time school while working, but I loved what I was learning so much that putting in the work was something I was more than willing to do. I loved getting to practice my hands-on skills with my classmates. Doing things like injections and blood draws on real people truly prepares you for real patients. I graduated from Pima Medical with a 4.0 GPA, and as soon as I started to apply for jobs, the offers were rolling in! I ultimately chose to work at University of Washington Medical Center because it seemed like the best opportunity for me, and it definitely has been. Since graduating, I have been working at UW for the last year. I have learned so much and have never been more confident in a job. Getting my education at Pima Medical Institute was truly one of the best decisions I have ever made. It prepared me so much for my future and made stepping into a new role a piece of cake. I would highly recommend Pima Medical to others seeking to change their lives.
