I had my daughter at a young age and realized I needed to focus on a career and a future for us. After months of research, I made the decision to attend PMI's Medical Assisting program while working as a full time single mother. We'd leave the house at 5:30 am, I'd drop her off at daycare, come to school, then go to work, pick her up from daycare, get home at 8:30 pm, eat dinner, put her to bed and I'd do homework for a couple hours and get to bed around 1- 2 am, and wake up and do it all over again. My motivation to stay strong and work hard was my daughter! My teachers encouraged me through my program and they believed in me 100%. After I graduated, I worked in a hospital followed by a pediatrician's office. Today, I work for an outpatient family medicine clinic and I love it!
I wouldn't trade anything I went through to get where I am today. My little girl and I now have a home, she has a yard to play in and everything that a little girl should have growing up, and so much more. I've recently been offered a promotion for a leadership role. They will be paying for me to go back to school to get my RN and Surgical Tech degrees. When people ask me how I got to where I am today, I tell them PMI.
PMI all the way!

Before going back to school, my life wasn't on the best path. After high school, I planned to become a nurse, but deep down I knew it wasn't what I really wanted. Eventually, I moved out on my own, but I found myself surrounded by the wrong people and making choices I wasn't proud of. It wasn't until I met my fiance that I seriously considered going back to school. He encouraged me to think about my future and what would truly make me happy. After some soul-searching, I decided to look for a Dental Assistant program - and for the first time, I felt excited about my future.
I found Pima Medical Institute through an online search, and after seeing so many great reviews from alumni, I knew it was the right place for me. Enrolling was the best decision I could have made. My experience at Pima Medical was nothing short of amazing - the support from my classmates, instructors, and family kept me going. My instructor, Margarita, was especially supportive. In fact, I wouldn't have made it through without her guidance.
I was excited for my externship at Associates in Family Dentistry and grateful to be hired upon completion. As I plan to move soon, I'm holding off on furthering my education for now, but I'm eager to explore my options. I am a proud graduate of Pima Medical and my ultimate goal is to build a successful career while growing my family with my fiance.

I graduated from PMI's Chula Vista campus in 2005 with my Associates in Occupational Radiologic Science. Since then my journey on this career path has brought me countless opportunities. It is PIMA Medical Institute that gave me the realization to know I could go anywhere and be confident in my career. I moved from San Diego to Las Vegas in 2006 and had two job offers. I have been a Lead Technologist, Clinical Instructor, and even expanded my career further to include a certification in Mammography.
In 2011 I was offered a job as a Radiography Instructor at the Las Vegas campus. Without hesitation I can say this is what I was destined to do. Now I have the opportunity to bring my knowledge, passion and experience of this field to future graduates.
In 2013 I decided to take things one step further and I started my Bachelor's degree through PMI's online program. I continued to work full time while maintaining a 4.0 throughout my schooling. In April 2015, I graduated with high honors in Radiologic Sciences. This marked the first time anyone in my family graduated from college with honors.
It is now my goal to inspire others to be successful in this career, and motivate each student I encounter. I am honoring the ones who have inspired me along the way with the company who led me here. This path to my career's journey to victory could only be described as a true story of success.

When I chose the Radiography Program at PMI, I had no idea the camaraderie I would experience with both my instructors and my classmates. The instructors always seemed to have my best interests in mind, including taking the time to work with me one-on-one. My classmates were very close knit. In fact, quite a few of us have maintained friendships and have even been resources for jobs over the years.
Finding a job when I graduated was fairly easy. I had rotated through four hospitals building relationships with other co-workers and allowing them to see my work ethic. I was hired at one of the clinical sites and while there, eventually moved into management. I've had the opportunity to be a Regional Director for two hospitals and, currently, I'm the Director of Imaging Services at Alvarado Medical Center.
PMI set me up for success. I didn't just learn the radiography piece; they taught me the front office, the billing side, and everything else from start to finish. When I started my career, I had a broad view and experience that made me more valuable as an employee. I'm so thankful for my instructors. They were approachable and made me want to learn. I still go to them regularly for advice. We have built a partnership.

I am currently working as a Medical Assistant in the area of vascular surgery at the New Mexico Heart Institute and I love my job!
It wasn't very long ago that I was working a night shift security position where I was bored, felt like I wasn't getting anywhere and longed for a career. One night I started researching online looking for something in the medical field and Pima Medical Institute popped up. I simply completed a brief form and they called the next day. Before I knew it, I was enrolled in the Medical Assistant Program. I was glad I didn't have a chance to second guess my decision.
Going back to school was challenging for me. I was still working security full time at night, going to school during the day and trying to find time to spend with my two-year-old daughter. That being said, Pima Medical provides everything you need to get started, including your uniform and backpack. I heard the passion in the voice of my first instructor when she spoke and it wasn't long before I fell in love with the medical field. I felt like there was no question whether we were going to succeed. Everyone at Pima Medical was so helpful.
When it came time for my externship, Pima Medical's career services department worked hard to place me at a site that fit my schedule and enabled me to continue working my security job. Being placed with a plastic surgeon was not my first choice, but I had an amazing experience and the doctor ended up recommending me for my current position at New Mexico Heart Institute. I'm so grateful for my new career!

Which program did you complete and what made you decide to continue your education online?
In 2011, I completed the associate degree program for Health Care Administration. For a number of reasons I waited to begin the Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration program, but at 52 years old in March 2019, I started the program and graduated in June 2020! In the beginning, I had reservations about online learning. I had been in a classroom environment for 11 years and it is what I knew and was comfortable with. But, I jumped into it and honestly adapted quite quickly.
What made you choose PMI's program?
I believe in our mission and what we stand for. There was never any question of choosing any other institution.
What was it like to manage a full-time position and your course load?
When I started the associate degree program in 2011, I had four kids at home all playing sports and I was working a full-time job. My planner and I were inseparable. I still have it and it is a testament to students who struggle with working school into their schedule. It was a lot more manageable than I expected and the only thing that suffered was my TV time. It was a small price to pay for an education!
Did you feel like the coursework was practical for your profession?
Absolutely! I cannot tell you how many times I refer to what I have learned from courses in both programs. I apply my learning experiences from the courses I have taken into my position here at Pima Medical on a daily basis. The biggest shift in thinking for me has been in seeing the bigger picture and knowing that every decision I make can reflect on the company as a whole.
Would you encourage others to continue their education and would you recommend this program?
Yes! I do every chance I get. My family, students and co-workers have heard me say more than once, "I don't care where you go to school just go ... but I chose Pima Medical!" Some of them have listened and that makes me so proud! In fact, my daughter completed the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences online program a couple of years ago after completing the Radiography program, both at Pima Medical.

I have found a career that I love as a Medical Lab Technician!
I'd attempted to find my place in the medical field once before, attending a Dental Assistant program, but it just wasn't for me. I just didn't enjoy interacting with patients. After being a stay-at-home mom for about 10 years, I returned to Pima Medical Institute, learned they had started a Medical Lab Technician (MLT) program and knew this was the program and the career for me.
I chose Pima Medical because I knew how hands-on they were. Unfortunately, shortly after starting the program, the pandemic hit resulting in us having to go to online learning. But, our instructors worked really hard to get us into the lab in small groups to practice during COVID. During my program I found out I had a brain tumor requiring surgery. The instructors were very helpful and supportive during my treatment and I was able to continue my program.
I am a veteran so I did my clinicals at the VA Hospital in Cheyenne, WY. It was challenging staying in Cheyenne during the week and driving back for week-ends, but I did it! I landed an MLT job at Centura Health's Penrose Hospital shortly after graduation and I love it! There is no typical day; every day is different and I learn something new almost every day. I plan to do this job until I can't do it anymore. I am preparing to start my bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science. This will set me up to get my MLS certification, providing a pay increase and an opportunity for a lead position. I would definitely recommend Pima Medical's MLT program. If you like solving puzzles, this is a great career for you!

I was a first-time mom of a four-month-old daughter when I enrolled at Pima Medical Institute's Denver Campus. I knew the retail or restaurant industry wouldn't be able to provide me with a stable income long term. I had not heard of the Medical Assistant (MA) program until talking with an advisor at Pima Medical, but I chose it because it offered an opportunity for me to meet the needs of people. I had no idea at the time how significant a role an MA plays in the front line at any hospital or clinic!
My experience as a student was BEYOND phenomenal! I nervously enrolled in the night course and faced the challenges of relearning how to manage the stress of being a student. One of the things I appreciated about all my instructors was their consistency. I felt BEYOND prepared to go out and be a successful MA. Since graduating, I have worked the majority of my MA career in women's health clinics (OB/GYN, reproductive medicine, sexual health clinics.) In 2018, while working in the Adolescent Family Planning Clinic at Children's Hospital, I earned my certification to become a Family Planning Health Worker. This allowed me to go to high schools, health fairs and clinics, to teach patients about birth control options and sexual health. Educating patients in this aspect, led me to my passion for teaching and I returned to my roots and began teaching at Pima Medical's Aurora Campus. After taking a break for my own health issues, as well as my continuing role as a mom (now to four children), I've recently returned there to teach.
My MA instructor, Trisha Brides, changed my life. Her extreme patience, encouragement and heartfelt sincerity helped me to be where I am today and I emulate her teaching style with my students. There are plenty of other schools out there that teach what we teach. But there is no other school that does it like we do it at Pima Medical Institute!

While initially interested in Dental Hygiene (DH), at age 18, I chose to pursue Dental Assisting (DA) instead, partly because I was hesitant to commit to a university four-year DH program. Later, as I learned about Pima Medical Institute's two-year DH program, my research told me it was highly reputable and very challenging. This both intrigued me and motivated me and I enrolled.
During my third semester an unexpected pregnancy brought huge challenges. My baby son was diagnosed with gastroschisis, a high-risk condition requiring frequent medical visits and a 54-day stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Despite the challenges of being a new mother and the emotional strain of the situation, I remained determined to succeed in my studies. I studied and completed assignments while at the NICU, my son serving as my inspiration. He was a reminder of my strength and my determination to never give up on my dreams. My DA employer had been supportive and excited about my becoming a Dental Hygienist and invited me to join their team as a DH upon obtaining my license.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to all of my instructors at Pima Medical for their unwavering support during my journey, especially as I navigated the challenges of my son's condition. Each instructor was incredibly helpful and supportive, always striving for my success. I am confident in the quality of education I received and would enthusiastically recommend it to others. While the program is rigorous, it is definitely achievable-I am living proof of that!

After completing high school, I was looking for a temporary source of income that would pay enough to allow me to put myself through college. I had several family members who had attended various programs at Pima Medical Institute, so decided to enroll in their nine-month Pharmacy Technician program, figuring it might be a quick way to make more than the average college student.
The class schedules were ideal, allowing me to work while going to school. It was a strenuous curriculum but my instructor, a Doctor of Pharmacy with many years of experience, ensured his students became successful Pharmacy Technicians. He knew exactly what made a great technician and he prepared us well to become nationally recognized Certified Pharmacy Technicians.
I have spent the past 17 years as a Pharmacy Technician working in inpatient pharmacy performing sterile and chemotherapy compounding. I moved away from Arizona about seven years ago and I was hired at the VA Medical Center, where I was quickly promoted to Lead IV Trainer.
Recently, the Mayo Clinic in Mankato reached out to me and offered me a job as their Technician Supervisor with a focus in Sterile Compounding. The temporary job I thought would support further education became my career. I am very proud of my work as a Pharmacy Technician and I'm thankful for my Pima Medical instructor. As a result of being trained by him, I feel like my career has been really distinguished and for that I will always be grateful.

When I first started my journey in health care, I was on track to become a nurse. After working as a phlebotomist for three years, I quit my job focusing on finishing the last few prerequisites for nursing school. However, life had other plans. I got pregnant with my now four-year-old daughter and took a year and a half off to spend time with her. In 2020, I began to reconsider my career path. I realized that the clinical side of healthcare was no longer my passion; instead, I was drawn to the administration and business side. After researching various degrees, I chose the online Health Care Administration (HCA) associate and bachelor's programs at Pima Medical Institute.
My experience at Pima Medical was incredible. Both programs' flexibility and the support from instructors and advisors were exceptional. They fit perfectly into my busy life as a full-time employee, wife and mother. The instructors were always available and willing to assist with anything I needed. The resources provided to students, from class scheduling to financial guidance, made everything so manageable. Upon completion of my bachelor's degree, I found a position as a Program Administrator at Baylor University Medical Center in Texas, managing the OBGYN, Hematology/Oncology, and Mechanical Circulatory Support programs and residents. I am currently working full-time and exploring graduate programs for Health Care Administration and Business Administration. My future goals include becoming certified in health care emergency management to effectively plan and respond to emergencies.
Thank you, Pima Medical Institute, for your guidance and support. Completing my degrees with you has been a wonderful experience, allowing me to achieve goals I never thought possible.

When I first walked through the doors of Pima Medical Institute, life was a challenge! My husband was out of work, and we, along with our six-month-old baby, were living with his mother. Plus, I had dropped out of school at 5th grade and since my mother wasn't familiar with homeschooling, I taught myself at home through high school. Today, after completing four programs, we own a beautiful home, and our now eight-year-old daughter is thriving. Our lives have completely transformed. I'm a 5th grade dropout with a master's degree - nothing is impossible if you really want it.
I began with the nine-month Medical Assistant (MA) program. Balancing full-time work and school was tough-I cried many times on my drive to class-but I never gave up. I was determined to build a better life for my family. That determination drove me to continue my education, earning my associate degree in Health Care Administration (HCA), a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration (BSHCA), and eventually a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (MSOL).
Throughout this journey, I've worked and gone to school simultaneously. Thanks to the education and skills I gained at Pima Medical, I've never struggled to find opportunities. In fact, I've had the privilege of being selective about my career path. I've grown from being an MA to a referral coordinator, and now, I'm in my first management position-a role I secured a month before earning my master's degree. Each program at Pima Medical played a crucial role in my career progression. My master's degree, in particular, has been invaluable. As a clinic manager building a new practice from scratch, I've relied on the knowledge I gained every step of the way.
Thank you, Pima Medical Institute, for changing my life and helping me achieve my dreams. If only my first instructor, Ms. Lakeeta Garfield, could see me now. So often her words - "Be thorough," have run through my mind. I have strived to be thorough in everything I do and I have been successful.
