After 15 years of employment with company I planned to retire from, I was let go due to the economic meltdown. I decided to go back to school and chose PMI. My biggest obstacle was overcoming my own lack of self-confidence. My first days as a student were very hectic, not only did I have to learn the course content, but I also had to learn how to become a student all over again. In the end, it was very rewarding and I had this overwhelming feeling of accomplishment that I had been missing in my life.
I arrived at each of my clinical sites with the motivation, drive and determination to become a medical professional. I was hired immediately after graduation at New Mexico Orthopedics and on my first day there, I received a phone call from The University of New Mexico Hospital. Based on my performance there as a student, they wanted to know if I would be interested in a position. I went from being a student to having two jobs within 30 days after graduation. I couldn't have been happier!
With the knowledge obtained through my work experience, I have recently moved into the Interventional Radiology department at UNMH. I've also recently completed my Bachelors of Radiologic Science through PMI's online program. I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to all of my instructors for believing in me and always encouraging me. I would definitely recommend PMI to anyone who is planning to go back to school or is in need of a change in their life.

I have always wanted a career in healthcare. I had previously pursued a nursing route, but was discouraged and unsure if nursing was really what I wanted to do. I came to Pima Medical Institute interested in the Pharmacy Technician program, but the admissions counselor I spoke to asked if I had heard about Respiratory Therapy (RT). She showed me a video explaining what an RT did and I was sold. Then and there, I found my calling. I was meant to be a Respiratory Therapist. I graduated from the Respiratory Therapy (RT) program with an Associate of Occupational Science in 2011. Knowing where the industry was headed, and my drive to move beyond bedside, I enrolled in the online Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy program (BSRT) and graduated in 2014. Since then I have worked in a critical access hospital, an acute care hospital, and a level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The NICU was my favorite place to work and where I excelled. My experience allowed me to sit for three additional specialty certifications, adding some hard-earned credentials to my resume.
Along the way, I found my second calling and passion - teaching all things respiratory. I continued on to obtain a Master's degree, which opened up another door for career advancement. I began teaching in a local respiratory therapy program while still working bedside, waiting to make the full transition into education. Fortunately, an opportunity came up to teach in the very same program here at Pima Medical Institute where I had attended 14 years earlier. Here I am, walking the same halls and teaching in the same classrooms I was a student in many years ago. I've come full circle from student to faculty ... I am still learning and doing what I love!

I enrolled in a four year university and ended up quitting during the first semester. That was the lowest point in my life. I felt like I had let everyone down. I came to PMI because I saw how much success my father had after he completed his program. I wanted to gain my family's respect back. After a rough start, I found my stride at PMI. I loved the externships which provided opportunities to meet people in my profession and to begin forming networks. In my case, I ended up with so many references; they won't fit on one page! When I learned I'd passed my first certification test, I couldn't stop the tears from streaming down my face. It was such a relief because there were so many hearts counting on me and I couldn't imagine breaking them again.
On the same day I passed my second certification test, a phone call came from Cheyenne, WY. A hospital there wanted to fly me out, pay for my hotel, rental car, and food for three days so that they could interview me! I was shocked! But, I happily boarded the plane only a few days later. I came home with a rock solid job offer and a sign-on bonus!
I decided to continue my education with Pima and recently completed the BSRS program!

After working at an animal shelter for about 10 years, I realized I wanted to become a Veterinary Technician. I did my research online and found that Pima Medical Institute's Veterinary Technician program had a good reputation, and their morning classes worked perfectly with my schedule. I was able to be a single mom, go to classes in the morning, and work in the afternoon. I had previous degrees that I didn't use, and I've always enjoyed learning, but PMI's program was very accelerated, I learned so much so fast. My instructors were great and gave us really good feedback. I realize I was a bit of a late bloomer in deciding to go back to school at age 34, but I'm so glad I did.
During my Veterinary Assistant externship, I worked at Veterinary Specialty Center where I got great experience and a job. I was able to work while completing my Veterinary Technician program, and I recently became the internal medicine lead technician. I love my job in internal medicine, and I'm always learning. In fact, I am working towards my veterinary technician specialty license and even spend my vacation time going down into Mexico to participate in spay and neuter clinics. There are probably 20 of us PMI graduates at my work place. I have to say, it feels good to be surrounded by these graduates because I know they are well-trained and knowledgeable. This program really does set you up for success.

I was looking for a Radiography program that had a high pass rate for both classes and state boards when I found Pima Medical Institute. I chose them because of their short waitlist and because my coworker spoke of them with such overwhelming praise. I had been working in the field as a limited scope radiology technologist for about 9 years but, I wanted to further develop my knowledge in radiology. My instructors were great and they all wanted to see me and the other students excel in our field. I could talk about each one but they were all knowledgeable, kind and caring, and poured their hearts into their teaching. During my clinicals I was sent to Banner Thunderbird Hospital where I was able to work with the staff in intervention radiology and the catheter lab, which I believe helped me with my success in getting my first job at Banner Boswell Hospital.
One of the first things I noticed about attending Pima Medical Institute was the prestige that came with the name. When I told coworkers and managers that I went to Pima Medical it felt like I was held to a higher standard and was more sought after when looking for a job. I truly believe going to Pima Medical helped me achieve my goal of becoming a catheter lab technologist. My eventual goal is to become a manager of a catheter lab. I am so grateful to each of my instructors and I always recommend Pima Medical Institute to others.

I have found a career that I love as a Medical Lab Technician!
I'd attempted to find my place in the medical field once before, attending a Dental Assistant program, but it just wasn't for me. I just didn't enjoy interacting with patients. After being a stay-at-home mom for about 10 years, I returned to Pima Medical Institute, learned they had started a Medical Lab Technician (MLT) program and knew this was the program and the career for me.
I chose Pima Medical because I knew how hands-on they were. Unfortunately, shortly after starting the program, the pandemic hit resulting in us having to go to online learning. But, our instructors worked really hard to get us into the lab in small groups to practice during COVID. During my program I found out I had a brain tumor requiring surgery. The instructors were very helpful and supportive during my treatment and I was able to continue my program.
I am a veteran so I did my clinicals at the VA Hospital in Cheyenne, WY. It was challenging staying in Cheyenne during the week and driving back for week-ends, but I did it! I landed an MLT job at Centura Health's Penrose Hospital shortly after graduation and I love it! There is no typical day; every day is different and I learn something new almost every day. I plan to do this job until I can't do it anymore. I am preparing to start my bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science. This will set me up to get my MLS certification, providing a pay increase and an opportunity for a lead position. I would definitely recommend Pima Medical's MLT program. If you like solving puzzles, this is a great career for you!

When I was in high school, I wanted to become a doctor, but life happened and I spent the next 15 years doing what I thought I had to do, instead of pursuing what I loved. After my grandfather passed away in 2017, I spent four years caring for my grandmother. During this time, I realized I needed to follow my dream. I felt as though it was too late to become a doctor- as I would be 60 by the time I finished- but my research showed there were many alternative positions needed in the healthcare field.
I was familiar with their reputation, so I chose Pima Medical Institute for my education. I appreciate how they exclude unnecessary classes that are typical of traditional colleges and universities, and on day one teach key concepts and skills that will be used in the field. I attended and graduated from the Nursing Assistant program and obtained my license as a CNA. My externship really opened my eyes to just how well-prepared Pima Medical makes you for the workplace. Despite the higher cost of attending, I was very impressed with how quickly they were able to get me into the program versus other schools. Wanting to do more and have more responsibility, I enrolled in the Medical Assistant (MA) program. For my externship, I was placed at a pediatric site that fit my skills and personality and ended up being offered an MA position at the end.
I have decided it's not time to stop learning. I am currently enrolled in the online Healthcare Administration program to obtain my associate's degree by next March and my bachelor's degree the following year. For anyone interested in working in the medical field, I highly recommend Pima Medical. My instructors were encouraging and attentive to my learning style and taught me the important concepts of healthcare. After earning a bachelor's degree in cultural anthropology, I struggled to find a job and ended up in finance. When COVID hit, my new job offer was rescinded and I was forced to take a job at a grocery store bakery, far from my career goals. I kept hearing advertisements for Pima Medical Institute which piqued my interest in the medical field. This led me to enroll in their three-month Phlebotomy program, allowing me to work and study simultaneously with minimal school commitment. It was a way to dip-my-toe into the water of the medical field.
The Phlebotomy program was a turning point in my life. Small classes, hands-on experience, and an excellent instructor, Miss Denise, made a significant impact. I soon secured a position at Chandler Regional Hospital, where I interacted with various departments and realized my passion for patient care. Nursing stood out as the most versatile and impactful role, prompting me to pursue a nursing degree at the institute I trusted and I enrolled at Pima Medical's Mesa Campus. The Nursing program was challenging and intense, pushing me to grow and become accountable for patient care. Through diverse clinical experiences, I gravitated towards ER and ICU settings. I've recently accepted a position at OBS Banner Dessert, aiming to transfer to the ICU and eventually join the trauma team.
I am immensely grateful for my education at Pima Medical. The Phlebotomy program provided a crucial foundation, giving me the framework I needed for a career in the medical field. I invited Miss Denise to my nursing pinning ceremony and my dad told her COVID had been difficult for me and she had saved my life. He was right, Pima Medical Institute truly changed my life.

When I first started my journey in health care, I was on track to become a nurse. After working as a phlebotomist for three years, I quit my job focusing on finishing the last few prerequisites for nursing school. However, life had other plans. I got pregnant with my now four-year-old daughter and took a year and a half off to spend time with her. In 2020, I began to reconsider my career path. I realized that the clinical side of healthcare was no longer my passion; instead, I was drawn to the administration and business side. After researching various degrees, I chose the online Health Care Administration (HCA) associate and bachelor's programs at Pima Medical Institute.
My experience at Pima Medical was incredible. Both programs' flexibility and the support from instructors and advisors were exceptional. They fit perfectly into my busy life as a full-time employee, wife and mother. The instructors were always available and willing to assist with anything I needed. The resources provided to students, from class scheduling to financial guidance, made everything so manageable. Upon completion of my bachelor's degree, I found a position as a Program Administrator at Baylor University Medical Center in Texas, managing the OBGYN, Hematology/Oncology, and Mechanical Circulatory Support programs and residents. I am currently working full-time and exploring graduate programs for Health Care Administration and Business Administration. My future goals include becoming certified in health care emergency management to effectively plan and respond to emergencies.

In 2005, while browsing technical programs online, Pima Medical Institute's Veterinary Assistant (VA) Program caught my eye. I filled out a request for more information and, to my surprise, Niki Riggleman, a recently retired yet highly esteemed instructor, called me immediately. Despite never having had an interest in veterinary medicine before, that call changed my life. I can't imagine being in any other field today and I'm so grateful Niki called me!
I completed the VA Program and returned to complete the Veterinary Technician (VT) Program in 2007. It was a privilege to be part of the very first VT class at the Seattle Campus. One aspect of Pima Medical I truly appreciated was its accessibility; the ability to attend night classes and work during the day allowed me to maintain a steady income while pursuing my education. The hands-on classroom experience, combined with working in the field, was crucial to my professional growth.
My journey with VCA Animal Hospitals began with my first externship, where I was hired even before completing it. Almost 20 years later, I'm still with VCA and grateful to have found my place there. I worked as a VA, a VT and then quickly moved up to Technician Supervisor and a regional training role. In 2020, I became the Regional Technician Director for the Northwest & Hawaii Group, supporting veterinary teams across five states. Additionally, as the current President of the Washington State Association of Veterinary Technicians (WSAVT) and a former District Chair for the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA), I am dedicated to improving the careers of Veterinary Technicians and Assistants. Ensuring their optimal utilization and safety is crucial to our profession, helping us continue to serve our patients effectively.

After 25 years in restaurant management, I always knew I wanted to go back to school, but life kept getting in the way. In 2017, everything changed when I got very sick and ended up in the hospital for 10 days. One nurse, an older, highly skilled woman, was so inspiring that I thought, "If she can do this, so can I." Though I didn't want to be a nurse, I knew my management background could help me run a medical office. However, when I tried applying for receptionist jobs, I kept hearing the same thing-I needed medical experience.
That's when I decided to take a leap and enroll in Pima Medical Institute's Medical Assistant (MA) program. The nine-month program gave me the education I needed to get my foot in the door. It wasn't easy-after being out of school for 20 years, I had to relearn how to study and manage my time. But thanks to Pima Medical's support system and my fellow students, I got through it.
I landed my first job as an MA through my externship at Pima Heart. I soon enrolled in the online Health Care Administration (HCA) program, while moving up in my job and then continued into the Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration (BSHCA) program. Upon completion, I applied to administrative positions and was humbled to have 15 interviews scheduled. After considering numerous job opportunities, I chose to join Banner Health as a Practice Manager, overseeing a staff of 20 (with eight providers and 40 residents).

When I first walked through the doors of Pima Medical Institute, life was a challenge! My husband was out of work, and we, along with our six-month-old baby, were living with his mother. Plus, I had dropped out of school at 5th grade and since my mother wasn't familiar with homeschooling, I taught myself at home through high school. Today, after completing four programs, we own a beautiful home, and our now eight-year-old daughter is thriving. Our lives have completely transformed. I'm a 5th grade dropout with a master's degree - nothing is impossible if you really want it.
I began with the nine-month Medical Assistant (MA) program. Balancing full-time work and school was tough-I cried many times on my drive to class-but I never gave up. I was determined to build a better life for my family. That determination drove me to continue my education, earning my associate degree in Health Care Administration (HCA), a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration (BSHCA), and eventually a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (MSOL).
Throughout this journey, I've worked and gone to school simultaneously. Thanks to the education and skills I gained at Pima Medical, I've never struggled to find opportunities. In fact, I've had the privilege of being selective about my career path. I've grown from being an MA to a referral coordinator, and now, I'm in my first management position-a role I secured a month before earning my master's degree. Each program at Pima Medical played a crucial role in my career progression. My master's degree, in particular, has been invaluable. As a clinic manager building a new practice from scratch, I've relied on the knowledge I gained every step of the way.
