I came to PMI after talking to a graduate from the Radiology program who was taking x-rays of my sinuses. His excitement about PMI and what he was doing was so contagious; I went home and told my husband I was going back to school. I had been diagnosed with asthma 6 years earlier, so when I heard about the Respiratory Therapy program, I decided this would be a way to help me take better care of myself. I signed up and joined in a small class with wonderful instructors. I was and still am fascinated with Respiratory Therapy. There are so many things we can do and still have to learn. I graduated from PMI in 1995 and continued my education, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and later a Masters in Guidance and Counseling. I worked as a staff therapist, a specialty therapist and provided education within both the Respiratory department and hospital wide. I loved working with students in their clinical rotations and realized education was my passion. PMI had been pursuing me and the timing was finally right in 2002 to come back as an instructor. I have and still am enjoying teaching at PMI. I love the students and the challenges they present. I think we have the best program and I know I have the best people to work with. All of us are interested in the students and in helping them become the best they can be. I keep telling my students that I have the best classes and I love each one dearly. Having fun at your job is rare, but I love what I do and I am so thankful to PMI for the opportunity they've given me to pursue my passion - teaching.

I am currently working as a Medical Assistant in the area of vascular surgery at the New Mexico Heart Institute and I love my job! It wasn't very long ago that I was working a night shift security position where I was bored, felt like I wasn't getting anywhere and longed for a career. One night I started researching online looking for something in the medical field and Pima Medical Institute popped up. I simply completed a brief form and they called the next day. Before I knew it, I was enrolled in the Medical Assistant Program. I was glad I didn't have a chance to second guess my decision. Going back to school was challenging for me. I was still working security full time at night, going to school during the day and trying to find time to spend with my two-year-old daughter. That being said, Pima Medical provides everything you need to get started, including your uniform and backpack. I heard the passion in the voice of my first instructor when she spoke and it wasn't long before I fell in love with the medical field. I felt like there was no question whether we were going to succeed. Everyone at Pima Medical was so helpful. When it came time for my externship, Pima Medical's career services department worked hard to place me at a site that fit my schedule and enabled me to continue working my security job. Being placed with a plastic surgeon was not my first choice, but I had an amazing experience and the doctor ended up recommending me for my current position at New Mexico Heart Institute. I'm so grateful for my new career!

I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do with my life. I began working as a CNA, and through my experiences in the hospital, I became excited about a possible career in the medical field. I heard a commercial about Pima Medical Institute and decided the quickest way into a career was enrolling in their 9 month Medical Assistant program. That opened the door for me, but I loved learning and knew I wanted more. My dad passed away in 2015 from a drowning incident and that experience pushed me toward the respiratory therapy field. Through that incident I was able to observe the amazing work that respiratory therapists do and I said to myself, "I want to be one of them". One year after completing the MA program, I started Pima Medical's Respiratory Therapy program and I loved every moment of it! The program was challenging, but our classes were small and I connected with my classmates. We developed an almost family-type relationship. I loved my instructors; they really wanted us to succeed. After completing my clinical experience, I was hired at St Anthony North Medical Health Center in Westminster, CO. I love my job! Recently, I have been working in the COVID ICU. I help intubate, manage ventilators and endotracheal tubes and give breathing treatments to those struggling to breath. I feel like I have found my calling. I love Pima Medical. They did so much for me. Down the road I hope to continue my education by getting my bachelor's degree and possibly even obtaining my master's degree in the respiratory field.

When I began my journey as a Physical Therapist Assistant student back in 2013, I immediately realized there was so much more to learn about the profession I had a passion for. I always knew that an associate in Physical Therapist Assistant was not going to be the end destination of my career. Two years later I took the next step bringing me closer to my goal of achieving a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). I wanted the perfect school to complete my bachelor's degree online. After some research and speaking with different admission counselors and directors of bachelor's programs, I chose Pima Medical Institute. I had undoubtedly found my perfect school. Pima Medical helped me grow as a professional. I learned about the importance of innovation and deepened my research knowledge, helping me to project myself in completely new work areas. The BSPTA program gave me the tools that have helped me to be more efficient in my workplace. I have learned to generate better rehabilitation processes and to also communicate on a higher level with other health professionals involved in a case. Pima Medical has helped me tremendously in my work field, but it has also pushed me for a better future. Recently, I have been accepted into an accelerated DPT program, and much of my success is due to the BSPTA program and especially to all the teachers who not only taught me the material but also pushed me to be better every day. I will be forever grateful of the education I received at Pima Medical Institute.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life after high school, but I knew I wanted to help others. I started college at 17, attending a community college for a while, but it just wasn't the path I was looking for. After researching online for a short program in the medical field, I found Pima Medical Institute. When the advisor described the role of a Medical Assistant (MA), I felt a spark and realized this program was for me. My experience at the school was really pleasant. I had a fantastic teacher named Mrs. Bridgeman who was encouraging and made learning fun. She not only taught us the necessary curriculum information we needed to know as an MA, she shared her own work experiences which was both helpful and fascinating to us. She and the other instructors helped me to be where I am today. The Career Services department was helpful in locating a good job for me with many possibilities and I am still working there today. I decided to continue my education with Pima Medical and am enrolled in its online Health Care Administration (HCA) program and plan to continue into the bachelor's program (BSHCA). My future goal is to be a manager of a clinic or even a hospital and my overall life goal is to become a doctor. I want to say - THANK YOU - to everyone at Pima Medical's San Antonio Campus. I am a successful medical professional because of all of you!

In 2005, while browsing technical programs online, Pima Medical Institute's Veterinary Assistant (VA) Program caught my eye. I filled out a request for more information and, to my surprise, Niki Riggleman, a recently retired yet highly esteemed instructor, called me immediately. Despite never having had an interest in veterinary medicine before, that call changed my life. I can't imagine being in any other field today and I'm so grateful Niki called me! I completed the VA Program and returned to complete the Veterinary Technician (VT) Program in 2007. It was a privilege to be part of the very first VT class at the Seattle Campus. One aspect of Pima Medical I truly appreciated was its accessibility; the ability to attend night classes and work during the day allowed me to maintain a steady income while pursuing my education. The hands-on classroom experience, combined with working in the field, was crucial to my professional growth. My journey with VCA Animal Hospitals began with my first externship, where I was hired even before completing it. Almost 20 years later, I'm still with VCA and grateful to have found my place there. I worked as a VA, a VT and then quickly moved up to Technician Supervisor and a regional training role. In 2020, I became the Regional Technician Director for the Northwest & Hawaii Group, supporting veterinary teams across five states. Additionally, as the current President of the Washington State Association of Veterinary Technicians (WSAVT) and a former District Chair for the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA), I am dedicated to improving the careers of Veterinary Technicians and Assistants. Ensuring their optimal utilization and safety is crucial to our profession, helping us continue to serve our patients effectively.

After 12 years working primarily as a public health nurse at a Federally Qualified Health Center (BQHC) serving medically underserved populations, I became a supervisor at the Florida Department of Health. It was then that I realized that I needed to obtain my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) to remain competitive in the job market. When I changed jobs, my new employer offered a deal I couldn't pass up; a FREE RN to BSN program, with the only contingency being that I remain with them 12 months after my degree attainment. I was initially accepted at a much larger and well-known university for an online Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, but the communication between myself and their recruiters left a lot to be desired, and as an older student who had never taken online classes, it spooked me. I searched and found Pima Medical Institute's online BSN program. I applied and was immediately welcomed by a veritable squad of people helping ease my fears and walk me through a new-to-me online educational experience. The director even called me personally to ensure the program fit my needs for maximum success. I graduated with a 3.9 GPA this past May, and I couldn't praise my professors or fellow students more! I had access to kind and helpful staff even at odd hours, and it has helped me become so much more confident in my current practice. My positive educational experience at Pima Medical has me seriously considering the Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (MSOL) online program. This is something that was never on my radar before and I know I would only want to tackle this goal with Pima Medical Institute.

After 25 years in restaurant management, I always knew I wanted to go back to school, but life kept getting in the way. In 2017, everything changed when I got very sick and ended up in the hospital for 10 days. One nurse, an older, highly skilled woman, was so inspiring that I thought, "If she can do this, so can I." Though I didn't want to be a nurse, I knew my management background could help me run a medical office. However, when I tried applying for receptionist jobs, I kept hearing the same thing-I needed medical experience. That's when I decided to take a leap and enroll in Pima Medical Institute's Medical Assistant (MA) program. The nine-month program gave me the education I needed to get my foot in the door. It wasn't easy-after being out of school for 20 years, I had to relearn how to study and manage my time. But thanks to Pima Medical's support system and my fellow students, I got through it. I landed my first job as an MA through my externship at Pima Heart. I soon enrolled in the online Health Care Administration (HCA) program, while moving up in my job and then continued into the Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration (BSHCA) program. Upon completion, I applied to administrative positions and was humbled to have 15 interviews scheduled. After considering numerous job opportunities, I chose to join Banner Health as a Practice Manager, overseeing a staff of 20 (with eight providers and 40 residents). Pima Medical provided the education I needed to excel in the medical field. My instructors were there for me every step of the way. If you're considering going back to school, just do it! After high school, I spent four years juggling two jobs-one at Office Max and the other at a bakery-when one day, my aunt called and asked if I wanted to go back to school with her. I had no idea what she meant, but I agreed. That's how I found Pima Medical Institute. I chose the Medical Assistant (MA) program because, when my dad was ill, I saw firsthand the impact healthcare professionals can have on a person's life. I wanted to do that too, and the program was only nine months long, which made it a perfect fit for me. I loved every minute of the MA program! The hands-on training felt so different from high school, and I found myself excited to learn. In particular, I discovered I had a passion for injections and blood draws. When it was time for my externship, I was nervous, but my head MA was incredibly supportive, and I quickly found that it all came naturally to me. Toward the end of the program our homework assignment was to apply for three MA positions. Afterwards, I didn't think much about it, but to my surprise, Saguaro Dermatology called and hired me. Dermatology is fast-paced and challenging, but I love it. My favorite part is working with skin cancers and assisting in surgeries. I also enjoy my role in the lab, processing tissue samples as a histotech. Since relocating to Tucson, I easily found another dermatology position, and I couldn't be happier. Pima Medical set me on a path I'm truly passionate about, and I'd do it all over again. If you're thinking about a medical career, don't hesitate-come to Pima Medical. You won't regret it!
