When I signed up for the Radiography program at Pima Medical Institute, I was a full-time husband, a full-time dad, and I had full-time bills and responsibilities. I worked nights as a patient care technician while attending school during the day. During my clinical rotations, I would leave my house early Tuesday morning, work my rotation from 7:30 am until 5 pm, go straight to my job, and work from 6 pm until 4:30 am. Then, I would take a shower at the hospital, drive to my clinical rotation, sleep for a little over an hour in my truck, and do it all over again. On Saturday morning I would return home to my wife and 4 kids. I did this for the last 16 months of my program. If it weren't for my family and my Lord, I would not have been able to do it. Because of their support, I graduated from PMI with a 3.8 GPA.
My PMI instructors had a passion for what they taught and they cared for their students. In fact, they are among the best people I've ever met in my life. My classmates and I helped each other through and became like a family. I currently work for two great companies - St Joseph's Hospital and Honor Health. They are training me in interventional radiology, not typically an honor given to new graduates. I love my job and am thankful for my education at PMI. It's been worth all the hard work and sacrifice. I'm here to tell everyone that no matter what you're facing or going through, if you're willing to make the sacrifices you can do anything!

I was born and raised in Bisbee, Arizona, and I'm proud to be a first-generation college student. My interest in radiology began in fourth grade after a broken wrist landed me in the ER. I was fascinated by the X-ray process, and that moment never left me.
After high school, I shadowed in the radiology department at a local hospital where my mother worked and decided to apply at Pima Medial Institute. I didn't get in the first time, but I gained more experience, took classes and eventually reapplied after COVID. I was accepted! And that changed everything.
The program was tough, especially being far from home and dealing with personal loss. But I was never alone. Kristen Miller, Jolene Pobrislo and Jeff Botkin supported me every step of the way. They believed in me, and I always knew I could reach out for help.
Today, I work as a radiologic technologist performing X-rays and bone density scans. I hope to add Computed Tomography (CT) to my credentials and grow into a hospital role. Pima Medical gave me the knowledge, confidence and care to make my dreams possible. And now, I get to show my grandparents every day that their sacrifices were worth it.

I was attending a local community college and was interested in their Physical Therapist Assistant program, but there were lots of pre-requisites and a long waiting list. I attended an open house at Pima Medical Institute and found I could start their PTA program right away. When I began, I thought 18 months felt like forever, but and all of a sudden it was over! I graduated in December, took my licensing test in January and started working in February. I love my job couldn't ask for a better place to work!
I am currently supervising a PMI student. I feel like I was just there and now I'm on the other side as a professional. One of my favorite things about PMI is how the classes were already set up and the books are provided. It created a much less stressful environment than my experience with a community college and enabled me to focus on what was really important. My director and instructors not only knew my name, they knew me.
PMI did a great job preparing me. They gave me the knowledge I needed to step into my clinicals with confidence. They also taught me how to study and prepare us for the licensing exam. They even prepared me for things like resume writing and interviewing. They made sure I was ready in every way to get a job in my profession.

I was 17 years old when I started working for American Express and I worked for them for 27 years. Then both my husband and I were laid off within a week of each other. I was 48 years old and I had always wanted to be a nurse. So I decided it's never too late to learn, and I began researching the medical field. The day my doctor told me he only accepted students from Pima Medical Institute because the others just didn't do as well, I knew I needed to go to PMI for my education.
After talking with an admissions advisor about my options, I enrolled in the Medical Assistant program. I worked in the field as an MA for a number of years but always kept in touch with my PMI instructor. One day she suggested I come back as a substitute instructor, so I did. Shortly after, I became a fulltime instructor. I feel like I am able to connect with my students on a special level, because I was once sitting in their chairs. Particularly, I can relate to my older students, because I know it wasn't easy when I returned to school. But, I'm able to encourage them and say, "If I can do it, you can do it! Look where I am!"
I've held a number of different positions over the years at PMI, from admissions to career services, but teaching is my first love so I am back teaching in the MA program. It is where my heart is! I just love coming to work every day!

I am currently working as a Medical Assistant in the area of vascular surgery at the New Mexico Heart Institute and I love my job!
It wasn't very long ago that I was working a night shift security position where I was bored, felt like I wasn't getting anywhere and longed for a career. One night I started researching online looking for something in the medical field and Pima Medical Institute popped up. I simply completed a brief form and they called the next day. Before I knew it, I was enrolled in the Medical Assistant Program. I was glad I didn't have a chance to second guess my decision.
Going back to school was challenging for me. I was still working security full time at night, going to school during the day and trying to find time to spend with my two-year-old daughter. That being said, Pima Medical provides everything you need to get started, including your uniform and backpack. I heard the passion in the voice of my first instructor when she spoke and it wasn't long before I fell in love with the medical field. I felt like there was no question whether we were going to succeed. Everyone at Pima Medical was so helpful.
When it came time for my externship, Pima Medical's career services department worked hard to place me at a site that fit my schedule and enabled me to continue working my security job. Being placed with a plastic surgeon was not my first choice, but I had an amazing experience and the doctor ended up recommending me for my current position at New Mexico Heart Institute. I'm so grateful for my new career!

While in high school, I attended the Veterinary Assistant Program at the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT). Pima Medical Institute's partnership with EVIT provided a really smooth transition for me to go right from high school into their Veterinary Technician (VT) program.
Being a student in the VT program was not easy. It is an accelerated program and beginning the program during COVID meant I had to adjust to virtual learning. It was a huge challenge but I'm so glad I did it. Being a veterinary technician is a fast-paced job that is not just petting puppies and Pima Medical helped prepare me for all aspects of the job. Even battling COVID regulations, they still worked to get us on campus and on field trips to get the hands-on experience we needed. Following my clinicals at Seville Veterinary Hospital where I had also done my EVIT internship, I was hired as a veterinary technician. I have been busy working and studying for my VTNE exam.
I would absolutely recommend Pima Medical. It is not a program for the faint of heart. You must be committed and have a desire to learn. The instructors are dedicated to helping you succeed and they all push you out of your comfort zone to be your best self. I definitely feel prepared for my profession.
I'm 19 years old, I have a brand new career and I'm making decent money at a job that I love!

I graduated with my Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) associate's degree in 2009 and began working in the field of physical therapy. I later became a credentialed clinical instructor and later a full-time faculty member in the PTA program. I quickly realized that I needed to further my education and deepen my understanding of many of the theories in physical therapy beyond clinical practice. I spent some time looking for a program, and once I found the Pima Medical Institute's Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapist Assistant (BSPTA) program, I immediately knew it was exactly what I was looking for.
I enrolled in the BSPTA online program and began taking classes full time while still working as an educator. The classes were engaging, highly stimulating and educational, and facilitated a desire to learn more about the field. The instructors in the BSPTA program were passionate about the profession, were patient with the students, and provided expert pedagogical instruction relevant to current physical therapy practice.
The educational choice of attending the BSPTA program at Pima Medical was one of the best decisions I have made in the last 10 years concerning my career and has set me on a trajectory for academic and professional advancement. Upon completion of the BSPTA program, opportunities at the community college began to emerge. I have since utilized the BSPTA degree to teach a wider variety of coursework, am working more closely with educators at universities, and aligning myself with potential advancement at the college. I am also currently pursuing a Master's degree with an expected graduation date of May 2022.

I have found a career that I love as a Medical Lab Technician!
I'd attempted to find my place in the medical field once before, attending a Dental Assistant program, but it just wasn't for me. I just didn't enjoy interacting with patients. After being a stay-at-home mom for about 10 years, I returned to Pima Medical Institute, learned they had started a Medical Lab Technician (MLT) program and knew this was the program and the career for me.
I chose Pima Medical because I knew how hands-on they were. Unfortunately, shortly after starting the program, the pandemic hit resulting in us having to go to online learning. But, our instructors worked really hard to get us into the lab in small groups to practice during COVID. During my program I found out I had a brain tumor requiring surgery. The instructors were very helpful and supportive during my treatment and I was able to continue my program.
I am a veteran so I did my clinicals at the VA Hospital in Cheyenne, WY. It was challenging staying in Cheyenne during the week and driving back for week-ends, but I did it! I landed an MLT job at Centura Health's Penrose Hospital shortly after graduation and I love it! There is no typical day; every day is different and I learn something new almost every day. I plan to do this job until I can't do it anymore. I am preparing to start my bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science. This will set me up to get my MLS certification, providing a pay increase and an opportunity for a lead position. I would definitely recommend Pima Medical's MLT program. If you like solving puzzles, this is a great career for you!

Dentistry was always in my plan, but life took a turn when I became a young mom while attending NMSU (New Mexico State University). Returning home, I started working for a family friend's dental practice, fell in love with the field, and decided to officially pursue a career in Dental Assisting (DA). I was looking for a fast-paced program and Pima Medical Institute was the perfect fit. My experience there was fantastic-I applied what I learned on the job and made lifelong friends.
After working as a dental assistant for a year, I decided to further my career and enrolled in the Dental Hygiene (DH) program at Pima Medical. The program was challenging, but the instructors were incredible. I was taught by some of the icons of dental hygiene and I thrived in the rigorous environment. Upon graduation, I quickly secured a job as a dental hygienist, working five days a week to maximize my education. Over time, I got married, had another son, and excelled in my career, and began working in a corporate dental setting. In 2021, I returned to Pima Medical as an instructor in the hygiene clinic, a full-circle moment. To say I loved it would be an understatement. Not only did I find my passion for teaching, I got to continue learning alongside my students.
Currently, I'm preparing to open New Mexico's first dental hygiene studio to meet the needs of preventative care. I hope to employ several dental hygienists and we plan to collaborate with local dentists. I'm also starting a dental hygiene consulting business. I am excited about this business venture and genuinely credit my success to the education I received at Pima Medical. I am incredibly grateful to my instructors for shaping me into the professional I am today.

At age 19, I started at Pima Medical Institute after realizing that my initial path at UNM wasn't the right fit for me at that time. A friend suggested looking into CT technology, and after some research, I found that Pima Medical's Radiography (RAD) program offered a quicker and more fitting path to my career goals. The structured environment in the RAD program was exactly what I needed, although it wasn't always easy. My father passed away during my second semester, which made it tough to stay on track, but with the support of the school, I persevered. The clinical experiences were mostly positive, giving me valuable hands-on learning. Even in challenging situations, I gained skills by working independently, which proved to be great learning experiences.
Graduating in 2004, I entered the workforce during a tech shortage and quickly landed a job. I started in x-ray and, over the years, expanded my expertise by becoming registered in mammography, bone density, and MRI. However, I chose to focus on mammography, as it offered a better work-life balance compared to MRI.
After a decade at a hospital, I transitioned to a quieter clinic setting where I could work more independently, which suits me well. I've been at a small clinic for nearly a year now, enjoying the stability and better hours. Alongside my career, I'm also completing my bachelor's degree in university studies, thanks to a state program offering free classes to those close to finishing their degree.
Looking ahead, I'm content with where I am but open to new opportunities, possibly in management. Pima Medical set me up for success, giving me the tools I needed to start and grow my career in radiology. Now 20 years later, I'm grateful for the education and experiences that have brought me to where I am today.

I spent nearly seven years working as a Medical Assistant (MA) before I finally decided to continue my education and complete the Radiography program at Pima Medical Institute. One of the biggest obstacles I faced was my commute - I live in Colorado Springs, so this was a 74-mile drive each way to attend class at the Denver Campus. That meant spending at least two and a half hours a day just on the road, in addition to my coursework, clinicals and job at UCHealth.
The instructors at Pima Medical were incredible. They were more than just educators-they were mentors who believed in me, even when I doubted myself. The program was challenging, but it was also incredibly rewarding. I loved every moment of it, and I genuinely believe that the hands-on, real-world experience I gained during my time there has set me up for success in my new career.
One of the most exciting parts of this journey was being hired to work for both UCHealth and Penrad Imaging before even completing my program. I was offered a full-time position at Penrad Imaging and later, I was hired as a PRN at UCHealth. It was a huge confidence boost, knowing that I was already making an impact in the field even before passing my ARRT registry exam.
Now, I'm officially a Radiologic Technologist, and I couldn't be more excited to start this new chapter of my career. Every challenge, every late night, every moment of doubt was worth it. Thank you Pima Medical!

I had been working at a grocery store for 12 years when I decided it was time for a change. I hadn't been in school in a very long time and wasn't quite ready to commit to a four-year university. When I found Pima Medical Institute, it felt like the right fit for me in my stage of life. I chose the nine-month Medical Assistant (MA) program because I viewed it as a great stepping stone into a career in the medical field.
I really enjoyed my time at Pima Medical. It was exciting to be in a learning environment surrounded by students who were all motivated to succeed. My biggest challenge was balancing full-time work with evening classes while still finding time to study. It wasn't easy, but I did it! The thing I appreciated most about Pima Medical was the genuine commitment to student success. There was always help available whenever I had questions or needed support. Because of that, I walked out of the program feeling prepared and confident in my new profession.
Upon graduation, I quickly found a job and began working as a Medical Assistant with Providence in family practice, where I stayed for six years. Currently, I work for Optum Primary Care, continuing my career in family medicine. While at Providence, I had the opportunity to be a preceptor in the apprentice program, and I hope to take on that role again at Optum in the future. Educating and mentoring others is a passion of mine, and I look forward to continuing to make a difference in the field of healthcare.
