I've always been interested in the medical field and felt like it was the field with the most longevity. What made me choose Pima was the time frame of the program and the fact that their job rate of employment was the highest that I found. Those two things solidified it for me.
Going back to school at my age and getting back in that mind frame was tough! Math was very challenging for me and when my instructor suggested a tutor, I was happy to accept the help. By the end of the program I was a tutor for some of the computer classes. So, it was a fun learning experience.
Currently, I am enjoying my job as a Medical Administrative Assistant for Colorado Springs Family Practice where I completed my externship. I'd like to say THANK YOU to my instructors who took the time to make sure I understood the material and helped me relax when I was stressed. I've completed my Health Care Administration online associate degree program through PMI's online and am currently enrolled in their bachelor's degree program.

My journey into health care began with an interest in nursing, but I soon realized it didn't align with my personality. A shadowing opportunity in a Radiology department, arranged by my mother, confirmed my passion for radiography. I chose Pima Medical Institute's Radiography associate degree program and had exceptional experience as a student.
The program's blend of didactic and clinical training thoroughly prepared me for my career. I viewed each clinical rotation as a job interview, especially my fourth-semester placement. I worked hard to impress the staff by demonstrating the skills I had learned and I earned a job offer at the same hospital, where I continue to work.
Currently, I serve as the Director of Diagnostic Imaging at Canyon Vista Medical Center. Since graduating from Pima Medical's Radiography program 13 years ago, I have had the privilege of precepting students from various programs across Arizona and California. Among them, Pima Medical students consistently stand out. They arrive at their first clinical rotation with strong positioning skills and the confidence to image patients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics.
Pima Medical not only equipped me with essential skills but also instilled confidence and set me on a path to success.

I had recently moved from my home in Gallup, New Mexico to live with my brother in Albuquerque. His wife was attending Pima Medical at the time and one day I went with her to drop off homework and ended up talking with the receptionist. When she asked me what I wanted to do with my life, I didn't really have an answer. She began telling me about students who had gone through their program and earned a career in a short time and how successful they had become. So, I decided to do it!
I really appreciated how from the moment you walked into Pima Medical, the classes were all set up and structured for you and the objectives were clear. I liked knowing the date I was going to finish when I began the program. I had a really good experience out in the field and was able to apply all I had learned in the classroom. At my externship, I had the opportunity to rotate through gynecology, urology, family practice, orthopedics, cardiology, endocrinology and surgical specialties.
I applied anywhere and everywhere because I needed to find a job right away. Lovelace was impressed by all the experience I had in my externship and hired me as a Medical Assistant for their endocrinology department. I have already completed many of my prerequisites and plan to continue my education in nursing.
As far as attending Pima Medical ... if you set your mind to it, you can do it!

I suffered a severe back injury that really took a toll on my health. I found myself realizing I had to make a career change and I needed it fast. I saw a commercial on TV for Pima Medical Institute and my husband encouraged me to seek information about the college. That same day I called Pima Medical. The next day I came in for a tour, and two hours later, I was enrolled in the Medical Administrative Assistant (MAA) program.
I had many struggles while in the program. I was dealing with back pain that was unbearable at times, making it difficult to sit in class. The staff at Pima Medical was very accommodating to my needs, which I was very grateful for. Financial struggles started occurring fast. I had to leave my job because of my injury. With family living so far away, we had no place to go. The next couple of months my family and I stayed at a hotel. Trying to make ends meet was very tough. There were even a couple of nights we slept in the car and utilized food pantries just to get by. Everyone at Pima Medical was so kind and supported us in many ways. I had many people to lean on and they always provided a safe place to release my emotions. I truly believe without the support from Pima Medical and my family, I couldn't have made it.
I am currently employed as a clinical secretary at Kidney Care and I love it. I am proud of myself for persevering. My health is better and my family has a place to call home. It was all worth it!

In 2012 I was in a bad accident and spent time in the hospital. This experience enabled me to observe the nurses and see how they cared for people. I had been working as a team lead at Target for a number of years but I decided that I wanted to do more than help people spend money, so I began pursuing the medical field. I started as a CNA and after 4 years decided I wanted to attend school to become an LPN.
I heard about Pima Medical Institute on the radio and got excited about attending their Practical Nursing program. I have to admit my first sequence of classes was really challenging! The whole program was a huge learning experience for me, but my hard work paid off. I appreciated how the whole program was laid out ahead of time, including our course work and the schedule. This really helped us be successful.
I was offered a job at my clinical site. The administrator took notice of me and offered me a position as a unit manager, not your typical first job as an LPN. I believe Pima Medical helped me develop a level of confidence that made a difference in obtaining this position. Recently, I was contacted by another facility and offered a job as another unit manager. I am honored and proud that in such a short time my education and hard work has provided opportunities for growth in my career. Pima Medical prepared me to be successful. The encouragement and support I got from my instructors was just overwhelming, and it's an experience I am always going to cherish.

I was quite sick as a child and spent a significant amount of time at the doctor and in hospitals. When I found myself married with a child and expecting another, I needed a career. My experiences I'd had as a child inspired me to enroll in the Medical Assistant (MA) program at Pima Medical Institute. After graduating, I worked for a family practice doctor for 29 years. While there I had the privilege of learning from both the doctor and his physician's assistant. My desire was to become a nurse, but by then I was a divorced single mom with three kids and couldn't afford to quit my job. About that time Pima Medical let me know they had a new online associate degree in Health Care Administration (HCA) and I enrolled. It was exhausting, but at the same time exciting to learn new things about healthcare. I wanted to keep learning, so I continued with the HCA bachelor's degree. While going to school, I was promoted to lead assistant and then office manager. I found myself teaching the doctor what I was learning about running an office in my online classes. I felt like our roles were changing from him training me, to me training him.
Currently, I am teaching in the Health Care Administration Certificate program at Pima Medical's Aurora Campus and substituting at the Denver Campus. I've come full circle. My sister graduated from the Radiology program, my brother from the Respiratory Therapy program and my daughter from the Surgical Technician program. Pima Medical feels like home to me and I'm so glad to be teaching there. I can relate to my student's struggles and still encourage them to continue their education. Through the years, I know I have mentored many students to achieve their dream job.

My daughter is a neonatal nurse and an associate director at Banner Hospital. I've always said I wanted to be just like her when I grew up!
I was just 16 years old when I had my daughter and spent the next 32 years working in the grocery industry while raising my kids. It wasn't until last year when my sister passed away that I experienced firsthand just how short life can be. I decided to take that tragedy and do something positive with it. My sister had always told me I could do anything and was smarter than I thought, so I decided to be like my daughter and obtain a career in the medical field.
My daughter had originally attended Pima Medical Institute for her CNA, so I boldly made the call and set up an appointment. Coming in as a 56-year-old mother who hadn't had any education since getting my GED in 1989, was intimidating. But from the person who welcomed me in the lobby, to the admissions advisor and then my instructors - everyone was kind and encouraging. I loved my instructors and I learned so much from them. It was a wonderful experience and it empowered me. I feel like I can do anything!
I thought it would be fun to work with babies and young parents, so I pursued and obtained a position working in the neonatal intensive care unit at Banner Health. My plan is to absorb as much information as I can and then continue my education. This is such an open field with so many opportunities.
I'm so thankful for my new career and everyone at Pima Medical. You can do anything you set your mind to and you're never too old to take the risk to start over!

I was injured while playing soccer in high school and my physical therapist said to me, "I think you'd be a really good physical therapist!" I tucked that away until I was at Texas State University heading toward becoming a nurse when I realized it just wasn't for me. I switched to Exercise Sports Science with a pre-physical therapy emphasis. After graduation, the doctorate physical therapy programs were extremely competitive and I just didn't have the confidence to apply - still a regret. Instead, I reviewed my options and began searching for a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program and found Pima Medical Institute.
It was a challenging, accelerated 18-month program, but my instructors were super motivating. Although they were hard on us, they gave us all the tools needed to be the best professional clinicians we could be. I was awarded the most "outstanding student" at graduation and offered a job at each of my clinical rotations. I began my therapist journey as a pediatric PTA until I found the place I really loved; working in sports medicine and rehabilitation. During my five plus years in orthopedics, I worked with multiple students as a clinical instructor. This drew my passion for education and I began my journey as a clinical director and instructor back at the same PTA program I'd attended. I tell my students I've been down their same path and I am going to give them everything they need to be a success in their clinical experience. I remind them that I am invested in their success because not only is Pima Medical's reputation on the line, so is mine as a graduate of this program.
Pima Medical provided what I needed to become a great therapist and for that I am thankful. I believe I've found my place in education and I am hoping to further my education through the master's degree program in the future.

After moving from Texas to Colorado for a fresh start, I was determined to build a stable career in the medical field. Research led me to Pima Medical Institute, and from the moment I began speaking with admissions, I knew it was the right choice. Despite facing many challenges, I embarked on the Medical Assistant (MA) program with unwavering determination.
I started living in my car three weeks after starting the MA program. I was juggling homelessness, school and a full-time job. I struggled finding safe places to park, hot and cold nights, and finding time between work and school to do homework, sleep and get to the gym to take showers. I found incredible support from caring and understanding instructors who became like family to me. They provided resources and encouragement, helping me navigate the toughest moments. As difficult as my situation was, school was my biggest motivation and the people at Pima Medical were my support and prepared me for my future. Thanks to great instructors and comprehensive training, I excelled at my externship at Advanced Urgent Care, impressing my supervisors enough to secure a job offer before even graduating.
To my instructors at Pima Medical, I owe a debt of gratitude. I am the person I am today because of you. Your unwavering support and belief in me kept me going when times were toughest. Thank you for never giving up on me. You've shaped me into the professional I am today and I will forever be grateful.

After high school, I spent four years juggling two jobs-one at Office Max and the other at a bakery-when one day, my aunt called and asked if I wanted to go back to school with her. I had no idea what she meant, but I agreed. That's how I found Pima Medical Institute. I chose the Medical Assistant (MA) program because, when my dad was ill, I saw firsthand the impact healthcare professionals can have on a person's life. I wanted to do that too, and the program was only nine months long, which made it a perfect fit for me.
I loved every minute of the MA program! The hands-on training felt so different from high school, and I found myself excited to learn. In particular, I discovered I had a passion for injections and blood draws. When it was time for my externship, I was nervous, but my head MA was incredibly supportive, and I quickly found that it all came naturally to me.
Toward the end of the program our homework assignment was to apply for three MA positions. Afterwards, I didn't think much about it, but to my surprise, Saguaro Dermatology called and hired me. Dermatology is fast-paced and challenging, but I love it. My favorite part is working with skin cancers and assisting in surgeries. I also enjoy my role in the lab, processing tissue samples as a histotech.
Since relocating to Tucson, I easily found another dermatology position, and I couldn't be happier. Pima Medical set me on a path I'm truly passionate about, and I'd do it all over again. If you're thinking about a medical career, don't hesitate-come to Pima Medical. You won't regret it!

When I first walked through the doors of Pima Medical Institute, life was a challenge! My husband was out of work, and we, along with our six-month-old baby, were living with his mother. Plus, I had dropped out of school at 5th grade and since my mother wasn't familiar with homeschooling, I taught myself at home through high school. Today, after completing four programs, we own a beautiful home, and our now eight-year-old daughter is thriving. Our lives have completely transformed. I'm a 5th grade dropout with a master's degree - nothing is impossible if you really want it.
I began with the nine-month Medical Assistant (MA) program. Balancing full-time work and school was tough-I cried many times on my drive to class-but I never gave up. I was determined to build a better life for my family. That determination drove me to continue my education, earning my associate degree in Health Care Administration (HCA), a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration (BSHCA), and eventually a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (MSOL).
Throughout this journey, I've worked and gone to school simultaneously. Thanks to the education and skills I gained at Pima Medical, I've never struggled to find opportunities. In fact, I've had the privilege of being selective about my career path. I've grown from being an MA to a referral coordinator, and now, I'm in my first management position-a role I secured a month before earning my master's degree. Each program at Pima Medical played a crucial role in my career progression. My master's degree, in particular, has been invaluable. As a clinic manager building a new practice from scratch, I've relied on the knowledge I gained every step of the way.
Thank you, Pima Medical Institute, for changing my life and helping me achieve my dreams. If only my first instructor, Ms. Lakeeta Garfield, could see me now. So often her words - "Be thorough," have run through my mind. I have strived to be thorough in everything I do and I have been successful.

I knew since I was a child that I wanted to be in the medical field. When it came time for me to graduate from high school, I wasn't interested in a four-year college or university because I just wanted to jump right into the workforce as soon as possible and begin my career in the medical field. After explaining this to my gramma, she recommended Pima Medical Institute. We visited together and took a tour; I knew then that the nine-month Medical Assistant (MA) program was the best fit for me.
My experience as a student was amazing! The MA program is an accelerated program and while you're learning lots of information in a short time, the hands-on practice helps you apply your skills and prepares you for the profession. All the nerves, tears and anxiousness were so worth it. I was so well prepared for my six-week externship that I was offered a position as an MA upon completion. I am still employed there and I recently began going back to school to obtain my associates in Nursing with plans to continue on to get my bachelor's (BSN) degree.
I want to say thank you to every single one of my instructors. Pima Medical changed my life, and I will always be grateful for the education I received, the lifelong relationships I built with my instructors and classmates, and the lasting career it has given me.
