I had been in retail pharmacy management for a number of years and needed to make a career change. I went to Pima Medical Institute and the information I received about the Respiratory Therapy program was very appealing. I learned that my background in pharmacy combined with an education in respiratory would open many career paths for me. My experience as a student with PMI was great! It was very clear that everyone from the administration to the instructors really cared about me and my classmates.They wanted to see us succeed. To this day, I still maintain a working relationship with my instructors who supported me while I was a student. During clinical rotations I worked in an acute care hospital. I was very interested in being in this type of healthcare setting and obtained a job at St. Joseph's Hospital. Five years later, I manage a staff of over 50 respiratory therapists. I serve on PMI's advisory board and I am currently the president elect for the Arizona State Society for Respiratory Care board. My education at PMI really helped launch my career from being a knowledgeable clinician into a leader of other clinicians. I feel all of the opportunities I have been afforded have come from my baseline education I received from PMI

In 2012 I was in a bad accident and spent time in the hospital. This experience enabled me to observe the nurses and see how they cared for people. I had been working as a team lead at Target for a number of years but I decided that I wanted to do more than help people spend money, so I began pursuing the medical field. I started as a CNA and after 4 years decided I wanted to attend school to become an LPN. I heard about Pima Medical Institute on the radio and got excited about attending their Practical Nursing program. I have to admit my first sequence of classes was really challenging! The whole program was a huge learning experience for me, but my hard work paid off. I appreciated how the whole program was laid out ahead of time, including our course work and the schedule. This really helped us be successful. I was offered a job at my clinical site. The administrator took notice of me and offered me a position as a unit manager, not your typical first job as an LPN. I believe Pima Medical helped me develop a level of confidence that made a difference in obtaining this position. Recently, I was contacted by another facility and offered a job as another unit manager. I am honored and proud that in such a short time my education and hard work has provided opportunities for growth in my career. Pima Medical prepared me to be successful. The encouragement and support I got from my instructors was just overwhelming, and it's an experience I am always going to cherish.

When COVID hit, I had to close my in-person business and was struggling and searching for a career that would always be in demand. As a single mother of two, I needed to know that the work I was doing would not be in jeopardy. Having been raised in a family with healthcare backgrounds, I chose to enroll in the Medical Assistant (MA) program at Pima Medical Institute. In less than a year I graduated with all the skills I needed to enter the world of healthcare. My instructors were very thorough and amazing, especially Mr. Wilson. He not only shared his clinical expertise, but gave me invaluable real-world knowledge and insight into the field. I currently work fulltime in clinical research developing pharmaceutical drugs and therapies at the cutting edge of medicine. I'm working with Pfizer, Moderna, Eli Lilly, Braintree and other sponsors to help develop treatments for illnesses and indications from vaccines like the MRNA-Covid 19 Booster Vaccine to rare diseases such as Amyloidosis and Alzheimer's. I couldn't have done it without taking that first step of enrolling in the MA program. I'm currently continuing my education with Pima Medical's online Health Care Administration associate and bachelor's degree programs. Starting my career with Pima Medical was easily the best decision I have ever made and it has opened doors to even broader horizons. I started my medical career at Pima Medical Institute more than 16 years ago when I enrolled in the Medical Assistant (MA) program. I felt very connected and comfortable in the program and I developed both personal and professional skills. This led to my decision to return to Pima Medical to complete the online bachelor's degree in Health Care Administration (BSHCA) and my current enrollment in the Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (MSOL) program. Pima Medical really does feel like family. Throughout my programs I faced many obstacles in my personal life. But with strong family support and wonderful instructors, I was able to stay on track, keep going and not give up. As a fulltime employee, student, and mother it's important to have a work/life balance. Pima Medical offers flexible courses to make this all possible. I work at Valleywise Health Hospital, home to the biggest Refugee Health Medical Center in Phoenix. As a Clinical Research Coordinator in the OB-GYN Department, I coordinate final research projects for 38 Resident MD's from Creigton University. I assist in the development of their study protocols by formulating their study plan, and I am building a team and implementing new strategies for more efficiency in the program. Upon completion of my master's degree, I plan to begin a doctoral program in Health Care Administration. My goal is to one day run organizations that improve the health of disadvantaged populations such as high-risk poverty, social exclusion, and low-income families. My education at Pima Medical has strengthened my problem-solving skills, critical thinking and communication skills. I apply these in my profession today and my leadership team has praised me for this. I am proof of how Pima Medical Institute can propel to be success in the medical field.

After being a truck driver and construction worker for 20 plus years, I made a promise to my mother before she died that I would go back to school. For nearly five years I passed Pima Medical Institute on my daily drive, and finally found the courage to pull in and take the pretest for the Nursing program. Going back to school at age 50 was scary, but I loved the atmosphere, the instructors and my classmates at Pima Medical. The instructors did an exceptional and extraordinary job preparing us for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). I applied at Banner Desert in Mesa where I had completed my clinicals and I was hired. It was 2019, and I was immediately thrown into the COVID Pandemic. A year later I decided to become a traveling nurse. Initially, I worried I might not be qualified enough or have enough experience, but I quickly got over that. Every place is different, but most of the core staff really appreciates the relief that travelers provide. I have been to 10 different places in four years. I'm considered a Banner Staffing Traveler within the Banner facilities nationwide and I call Banner Tucson my home, as it is where I spend the most time. Some of the challenges of being a traveler are finding a place to live and being away from family and friends. But, I am getting experience and confidence in different facilities and becoming more adaptable and flexible in my career. Plus, I am making a great salary. Pima Medical Institute changed my life forever. I made some lifelong friends during my experience, I had some incredible, humble, giving and caring instructors and I am truly grateful!

Pima Medical Institute has been a cornerstone in my career, providing a foundation that has endured through different stages of my life. Now, I'm excited to return to school and build on that strong base. No one in my family is in the dental field, but I've always had a passion for becoming a dental hygienist. After high school, I spent five years working in Alaska's fishing industry. Upon returning to Seattle, I inquired about the Dental Hygiene program at Pima Medical Institute and ultimately enrolled in the Dental Assistant program. Balancing full-time work during the day with evening classes at Pima Medical was challenging but rewarding. My teacher was great, and I formed lasting friendships-I'm still close with one of my classmates more than 20 years later. My first job was with a doctor in West Seattle, where I worked for two years before needing to go on bed rest due to pregnancy. I took a 15-year break to focus on being a mom. Remarkably, I was able to jump right back into my career as a Dental Assistant when I was ready. After moving to Phoenix, I started working as a temp and then secured my current position at Anthem Sonoran Valley Implants and Dental Center. It felt like riding a bike-everything came back to me. I love educating patients and helping them take care of their teeth. Currently, I'm in the process of applying to a Dental Hygiene program in my area. I want to further my education in the dental field and one day I hope to be able to clean teeth for free to help people who can't afford dental care. Pima Medical Institute has been supportive throughout my journey, from enrolling and securing financing to ongoing assistance whenever I need it. I'm incredibly grateful for the education and opportunities Pima Medical has provided me.

When I first started my journey in health care, I was on track to become a nurse. After working as a phlebotomist for three years, I quit my job focusing on finishing the last few prerequisites for nursing school. However, life had other plans. I got pregnant with my now four-year-old daughter and took a year and a half off to spend time with her. In 2020, I began to reconsider my career path. I realized that the clinical side of healthcare was no longer my passion; instead, I was drawn to the administration and business side. After researching various degrees, I chose the online Health Care Administration (HCA) associate and bachelor's programs at Pima Medical Institute. My experience at Pima Medical was incredible. Both programs' flexibility and the support from instructors and advisors were exceptional. They fit perfectly into my busy life as a full-time employee, wife and mother. The instructors were always available and willing to assist with anything I needed. The resources provided to students, from class scheduling to financial guidance, made everything so manageable. Upon completion of my bachelor's degree, I found a position as a Program Administrator at Baylor University Medical Center in Texas, managing the OBGYN, Hematology/Oncology, and Mechanical Circulatory Support programs and residents. I am currently working full-time and exploring graduate programs for Health Care Administration and Business Administration. My future goals include becoming certified in health care emergency management to effectively plan and respond to emergencies. Thank you, Pima Medical Institute, for your guidance and support. Completing my degrees with you has been a wonderful experience, allowing me to achieve goals I never thought possible.

In 2005, while browsing technical programs online, Pima Medical Institute's Veterinary Assistant (VA) Program caught my eye. I filled out a request for more information and, to my surprise, Niki Riggleman, a recently retired yet highly esteemed instructor, called me immediately. Despite never having had an interest in veterinary medicine before, that call changed my life. I can't imagine being in any other field today and I'm so grateful Niki called me! I completed the VA Program and returned to complete the Veterinary Technician (VT) Program in 2007. It was a privilege to be part of the very first VT class at the Seattle Campus. One aspect of Pima Medical I truly appreciated was its accessibility; the ability to attend night classes and work during the day allowed me to maintain a steady income while pursuing my education. The hands-on classroom experience, combined with working in the field, was crucial to my professional growth. My journey with VCA Animal Hospitals began with my first externship, where I was hired even before completing it. Almost 20 years later, I'm still with VCA and grateful to have found my place there. I worked as a VA, a VT and then quickly moved up to Technician Supervisor and a regional training role. In 2020, I became the Regional Technician Director for the Northwest & Hawaii Group, supporting veterinary teams across five states. Additionally, as the current President of the Washington State Association of Veterinary Technicians (WSAVT) and a former District Chair for the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA), I am dedicated to improving the careers of Veterinary Technicians and Assistants. Ensuring their optimal utilization and safety is crucial to our profession, helping us continue to serve our patients effectively.

When I got braces in high school, I was fascinated by how something so simple could transform a person's smile-and their confidence. That experience sparked my interest in the dental field, and after researching options, I found Pima Medical Institute's Dental Assistant (DA) program. I enrolled right after high school and jumped into the program. My instructors were incredible! I never considered myself a standout student, but the hands-on learning style was perfect for me. I learned so much, and when it came time for my externship, it felt like a breeze because I was so prepared. They even offered me a job as soon as I finished, and I worked there happily until I moved out of state. Since graduating in 2011, I've worked in every part of a dental office-from assisting to managing the front desk to being an office manager. Today, I'm a mom of two fast-growing kids, and I want more flexibility to be with them, so I'm going back to school for billing and coding. This will allow me to continue working in the dental field from home. I love the dental field because I get to make a difference-helping patients find relief from pain or transforming their smiles - and I'm excited about the next chapter in my dental career. Pima Medical is an amazing place with caring instructors and I would choose it all over again. It's changed my life.
