I once dreamt of a high power job working on the top floor of a sky scraper. I graduated with my bachelor's and obtained a good position with a fortune 500 company where I learned valuable information, but felt unfulfilled. I had a desire to help people and make a difference, so when my mother suggested looking into occupational therapy I jumped in feet first.
I enrolled in Pima Medical Institute's Occupational Therapy Assistant program because their accelerated curriculum, class schedule and location fit my needs. My experience was quite different than my bachelor's had been, in that the instructors had on-the-job experience and there was significantly more hands-on learning. As students, we were encouraged to become involved in the OT community and I continue to play an active role by holding board positions and sitting on ad hoc committees in our state associations. Through networking, I received a position in subacute rehabilitation and worked my way into management.
Currently, I am an OTA instructor back at the PMI campus where I once attended. It wasn't that long ago I sat in those same chairs and, consequently, I understand the challenges and pressures my students face. I didn't just find a job; I found a profession and a career I am proud of and extremely happy to support on a daily basis. I am thankful to PMI for the education I received and now for the opportunity to continue to educate others in the OTA profession. I'm not in a sky scraper (although my office is on the 5th floor) but I love my job!

I spent nearly seven years working as a Medical Assistant (MA) before I finally decided to continue my education and complete the Radiography program at Pima Medical Institute. One of the biggest obstacles I faced was my commute - I live in Colorado Springs, so this was a 74-mile drive each way to attend class at the Denver Campus. That meant spending at least two and a half hours a day just on the road, in addition to my coursework, clinicals and job at UCHealth.
The instructors at Pima Medical were incredible. They were more than just educators-they were mentors who believed in me, even when I doubted myself. The program was challenging, but it was also incredibly rewarding. I loved every moment of it, and I genuinely believe that the hands-on, real-world experience I gained during my time there has set me up for success in my new career.
One of the most exciting parts of this journey was being hired to work for both UCHealth and Penrad Imaging before even completing my program. I was offered a full-time position at Penrad Imaging and later, I was hired as a PRN at UCHealth. It was a huge confidence boost, knowing that I was already making an impact in the field even before passing my ARRT registry exam.
Now, I'm officially a Radiologic Technologist, and I couldn't be more excited to start this new chapter of my career. Every challenge, every late night, every moment of doubt was worth it. Thank you Pima Medical!

I chose Pima Medical Institute because it was an established program with a good reputation in the Physical Therapy community. I had met several students in the program who were very satisfied with the education they had received and I attended PMI's Open House to get a feel for the staff and facility. I came into a tough program as an older adult learner. But, I always felt supported by staff members, who were clearly invested in my success as a student.
I began working for Paradigm Physical Therapy in Los Lunas, New Mexico after a short job search. I heard about the clinic's superb reputation from fellow students who had done clinical internships there. I've also attended a training course for Clinical Instructors under the auspices of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and have been a Clinical Instructor overseeing students on clinical rotations. I am currently working on obtaining a certification for Certified Kinesiotape Practitioner. Also, I serve on PMI's PTA Program board.
I would definitely recommend PMI and the PTA program to anyone, if they are willing to make a commitment to work very hard! To my former instructors: thank you for believing in me and supporting me every step of the way. It means so much to me.

My cousin had been in the Dental Assistant program at Pima Medical and that's why I decided to come here. My experience as a student was new and was very different from high school. I had to learn to be responsible and work independently. The instructors were helpful and were willing to stay after class as long as it took for me to understand or practice the material, but they didn't hold my hand. They taught me how to be a professional. I didn't realize until I began working in a dental office that I had been taught everything I needed to know to work in a professional environment.
PMI helped me find a job. After graduation they would continue to contact me to get permission to send out my resume, to follow up on possibilities, and to encourage me to stay in touch if I needed help. It was clear their goal was to help me find a job and help me pursue my career. I am so happy with the job they helped me find, but I'm not finished with school. After I gain a little on-the-job experience, my goal is to become a Dental Hygienist!

I have had a lot of dental work done in the past, including jaw surgery, which was scary and life changing. The dentists and dental hygienists were amazing, but it was the dental assistants who sat with me and provided comfort. I decided I wanted to be part of something that offered that kind of compassion.
I had been working in retail and hadn't been in school for 12 years, so the program was definitely a challenge. A month before I started the Dental Assistant program, my brother passed away. It was the most difficult time in my life and it felt impossible to start something new. When I came to PMI, I felt like I had all the support in the world, even before they knew my situation. My instructors helped me believe I could be successful, and the lifelong friends I made while at PMI were encouraging and shared my journey.
I did my externship at Community Health Center of Snohomish County. The advisors at PMI placed me there because they thought it would be a perfect fit, and it was - I was hired immediately as a dental assistant. I am currently working and going back to school with the goal of becoming a Forensic Odontologist, which is someone who applies dental science for identification of unknown remains and bite marks. I know it's a unique field, but I want to be able to offer compassion and bring closure to families.
I was at PMI during the most difficult time of my life, and I am incredibly thankful to PMI and everyone involved in my success.

I am currently working as a Medical Assistant in the area of vascular surgery at the New Mexico Heart Institute and I love my job!
It wasn't very long ago that I was working a night shift security position where I was bored, felt like I wasn't getting anywhere and longed for a career. One night I started researching online looking for something in the medical field and Pima Medical Institute popped up. I simply completed a brief form and they called the next day. Before I knew it, I was enrolled in the Medical Assistant Program. I was glad I didn't have a chance to second guess my decision.
Going back to school was challenging for me. I was still working security full time at night, going to school during the day and trying to find time to spend with my two-year-old daughter. That being said, Pima Medical provides everything you need to get started, including your uniform and backpack. I heard the passion in the voice of my first instructor when she spoke and it wasn't long before I fell in love with the medical field. I felt like there was no question whether we were going to succeed. Everyone at Pima Medical was so helpful.
When it came time for my externship, Pima Medical's career services department worked hard to place me at a site that fit my schedule and enabled me to continue working my security job. Being placed with a plastic surgeon was not my first choice, but I had an amazing experience and the doctor ended up recommending me for my current position at New Mexico Heart Institute. I'm so grateful for my new career!

For the past 15 years I have been the Director of a Mohs Laboratory where we perform surgeries to treat skin cancer.
At the age of 25, I found myself newly married with two children, working part-time and wanting to obtain a career in the medical field. I enrolled in Pima Medical Institute's nine-month Medical Assistant (MA) program where I was able to have a flexible schedule and a really good experience. My instructors were all great and encouraging and I felt very prepared for my new profession. Pima Medical placed me at a Family Practice for my externship, where I was hired, providing me with a great first job experience.
Later, I was hired and trained to be a Histotechnician while on the job at the California Skin Surgery Center where I was quickly promoted. I also assisted in many surgeries in this position and helped them build their business from five surgeries a day to 15- 17 a day. Because education and teaching others has always been a passion of mine, I've been studying science and nutrition and am currently working toward earning a health coaching certification.
I am thankful for my education at Pima Medical and would recommend it to anyone looking for a rewarding healthcare career.

I took a leap of faith and it ended up being my calling! After the birth of my oldest daughter, I was feeling the pressure of parenthood. Despite my degree in graphic design, I wasn't able to find a job. I saw a commercial for Pima Medical Institute, called for an appointment and ended up starting the Medical Assistant (MA) program almost immediately. Compared to my previous college experience, Pima Medical was a breath of fresh air - a one-stop shop for education. The positive environment, small class sizes and supportive instructors made the journey enjoyable. My classmates were both younger and older than me, but we had the same goal and supported each other.
During my externship in an urgent care, I felt well-prepared for tasks like vitals, blood draws and injections and gained valuable hands-on experience in suturing and wound care. I landed my first job at Planned Parenthood and later moved to the Nephrology department at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, where I gained experience and became a Lead MA. Knowing I wanted to move up in healthcare, I enrolled in the online Health Care Administration program. Getting your associate degree while working in the field makes it easier as you're able to apply what you're learning. Currently, I am a Transplant Program Assistant at Virginia Mason. My responsibilities include initiating recipient referrals, scheduling recipient and donor evaluations and overall administrative support for nurses, social workers and financial coordinators.
My job is very rewarding. Every year I increase my skills to obtain more credentials, I become more valuable and my pay rate goes up. Healthcare is where it's at!

After years of bouncing between retail and fast food jobs, I found myself questioning the direction of my life. Dissatisfied and yearning for something more meaningful, I explored careers in the medical field but many required prerequisites. That's when I discovered the Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) program at Pima Medical Institute during a meeting with an advisor. It sounded really interesting to me and I decided just to go for it.
Being part of the very first SPT program at the Denver Campus meant small class sizes and lots of personal attention. Sterile Processing fascinated me with its intricate details, providing constant mental stimulation. When I began my clinical work in the hospital, nerves got the best of me, leading to anxious mornings. Yet, as I embraced the experience, the fear subsided and I found purpose in the crucial role Sterile Processing plays and I was hired by the hospital where I completed my clinicals. Two years later, I moved to my current employer, Valley Regional Medical Center in Arkansas Valley, where I am the SPD Supervisor. I oversee the setup, sterilization and ordering processes, including implants and replacement parts. The responsibility is immense, but the challenge fuels my passion. I've recently returned to school online to pursue Practical Nursing (LPN), aspiring to advance to a Scrub Technician role here at the hospital and perhaps become a traveler in the future.
I had such a great experience at Pima Medical Institute and if I had the chance for a redo - I would do it all over again. I finally feel like I am doing something meaningful with my life.

After dropping out of community college, resulting in a $2000 tuition bill, I was at the lowest point in my life. I knew I wanted to go back to school, but had no money and no car. So, for one year I jogged three miles to begin my shift at McDonalds at 4:00 am until I could save the money I needed.
Inspired by my brother who had graduated from Pima Medical Institute, I met with an amazing admissions advisor at the East Valley Campus who spoke encouragement and belief into me. I chose the 3-month Phlebotomy program because it was the shortest path into the medical field and had a wonderful experience, despite passing out watching my first blood draw. I was hired at Banner Desert in Mesa, and after a few years, I began the Nursing program at the Mesa Campus. I really struggled with self-doubt, but with guidance from my dedicated instructors, I emerged prepared for my new profession. A nurse manager, who had observed my performance as a Phlebotomist, hired me as a Trauma PCU nurse. I later transitioned to a Psychiatric Nurse in the adolescent unit at Banner Behavioral to help others who were struggling like I had. I completed a bachelor's degree and recently a doctorate program from the University of Arizona to become a Nurse Practitioner.
I am so grateful to my Pima Medical instructors who gave me my start in the medical field and never gave up on me, even when I wanted to give up on myself. In my journey from McDonald's, to Phlebotomist, to Trauma Nurse, to Psych Nurse and now Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I am proof that with determination and support, one can achieve their dreams and make a lasting impact by never giving up.

After being a truck driver and construction worker for 20 plus years, I made a promise to my mother before she died that I would go back to school. For nearly five years I passed Pima Medical Institute on my daily drive, and finally found the courage to pull in and take the pretest for the Nursing program. Going back to school at age 50 was scary, but I loved the atmosphere, the instructors and my classmates at Pima Medical. The instructors did an exceptional and extraordinary job preparing us for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).
I applied at Banner Desert in Mesa where I had completed my clinicals and I was hired. It was 2019, and I was immediately thrown into the COVID Pandemic. A year later I decided to become a traveling nurse. Initially, I worried I might not be qualified enough or have enough experience, but I quickly got over that. Every place is different, but most of the core staff really appreciates the relief that travelers provide. I have been to 10 different places in four years. I'm considered a Banner Staffing Traveler within the Banner facilities nationwide and I call Banner Tucson my home, as it is where I spend the most time. Some of the challenges of being a traveler are finding a place to live and being away from family and friends. But, I am getting experience and confidence in different facilities and becoming more adaptable and flexible in my career. Plus, I am making a great salary.
Pima Medical Institute changed my life forever. I made some lifelong friends during my experience, I had some incredible, humble, giving and caring instructors and I am truly grateful!

Pima Medical Institute has been a cornerstone in my career, providing a foundation that has endured through different stages of my life. Now, I'm excited to return to school and build on that strong base.
No one in my family is in the dental field, but I've always had a passion for becoming a dental hygienist. After high school, I spent five years working in Alaska's fishing industry. Upon returning to Seattle, I inquired about the Dental Hygiene program at Pima Medical Institute and ultimately enrolled in the Dental Assistant program. Balancing full-time work during the day with evening classes at Pima Medical was challenging but rewarding. My teacher was great, and I formed lasting friendships-I'm still close with one of my classmates more than 20 years later.
My first job was with a doctor in West Seattle, where I worked for two years before needing to go on bed rest due to pregnancy. I took a 15-year break to focus on being a mom. Remarkably, I was able to jump right back into my career as a Dental Assistant when I was ready. After moving to Phoenix, I started working as a temp and then secured my current position at Anthem Sonoran Valley Implants and Dental Center. It felt like riding a bike-everything came back to me. I love educating patients and helping them take care of their teeth. Currently, I'm in the process of applying to a Dental Hygiene program in my area. I want to further my education in the dental field and one day I hope to be able to clean teeth for free to help people who can't afford dental care.
