At the age of 16 I became pregnant and had to drop out of high school. Later, I attended a program for teen moms and graduated as their valedictorian. But, my attempts to attend college were futile and I soon had another child and began working at a call center. My desire to be a medical professional never left me, and on my way home from work, I started driving past Pima Medical where I would sit in the parking lot watching students come and go. I just couldn't get up the nerve to go inside. As a result of my emotionally unstable relationship, I did not feel worthy or capable of anything. One day, a student walking near my car dropped all his books and papers. I jumped out of the car to help him and he looked me in the eye and said, "You've been sitting out here every day for a month - what are you waiting for?" God speaks in mysterious ways. I went inside and signed up for the Medical Assistant program.
It was difficult working, going to school and caring for my children. I knew I had to leave Albuquerque because of my unstable relationship, so Pima Medical arranged an externship for me in Phoenix. My instructors and classmates not only helped me pack, they raised money to help fund the move for me and my kids.
I was offered a position during my externship. I became the lead assistant quickly and then their office manager. After a few years, I moved to Scottsdale Physicians Group where I am a director over 38 other MA's. I am continuing my education in Pima Medical's online Health Care Administration program with plans to complete my bachelor's degree. I am still breaking the cycle. Pima Medical transformed my life both personally and professionally!

I wasn't completely sure about going back to school until I walked through the doors at Pima Medical Institute. From the moment I took the tour and sat down for the exam, Admissions Representative Mary Mikiel made me feel welcomed and encouraged. I don't love taking tests, but her support and positive energy truly made a difference that day. A few days later, she called to tell me I had only missed one question - and that I was officially accepted into the Medical Assistant program.
Starting the program, I connected quickly with my classmates and discovered a great sense of community. My instructors were not only knowledgeable, but genuinely invested in my success. There were five of us who graduated together, and that experience gave me newfound confidence in myself. I was working full time while attending school, and although it wasn't easy, I proved to myself that I could push through the ups and downs and make it to graduation day. I started working at a fast-paced urgent care where everything I learned at Pima Medical came flooding back like second nature.
After about a year of hard work, I was encouraged to apply for a higher position. I'm proud to say I am now the Center Manager at Carbon Health Carlsbad. None of this would have been possible without the incredible support and encouragement I received from the staff and instructors at Pima Medical. They believed in me when I didn't fully believe in myself and constantly pushed me to grow. For that, I will always be grateful. Pima Medical Institute didn't just prepare me for a career, they helped me believe in myself.

I never ever thought I would be in the medical field. I was a personal trainer, had opened up a gym and was an entrepreneur, but I decided I wanted to make a difference and chose to make a change. After doing some research I found Pima Medical Institute's Medical Assistant program to be the perfect fit for me.
Their program schedule allowed me to attend classes in the afternoon and continue my other jobs during the morning and evening. I loved the faculty, graduated with a 4.0 GPA and I fell in love with the medical field! After only a week at my orthopedic oncologist externship, I was offered a position. While working 40-50 hours a week, I chose to continue my education with Pima Medical's online Health Care Administration (HCA) Program. Fortunately, the program provides lots of flexibility and I was able to complete much of my coursework on the weekends. It was certainly a challenging 11 months, but I learned so much about leadership and management styles. It was so worth it!
I am currently the Clinical Practice Director for Scottsdale Physician's Group Virtual Care. In just over a year we have gone from 4 to 45 technicians and I credit Pima Medical Institute and their HCA program for providing me the foundation and the training needed to lead this fast growing company. I am currently encouraging my managers to attend Pima Medical's HCA program to help prepare them for their leadership roles and set them up for success.

After graduating from high school I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life. However, I had always pictured myself in the medical field. I am fascinated by teeth and feel as though they expressed who you are as a person, aesthetically. So, I decided to look into a dental career. After researching, I found Pima Medial Institute to be affordable and their classes fit into my work schedule. Therefore, I enrolled in the Dental Assistant Program.
I fell in love with the program! It was challenging and my days were long, but I appreciated the structure of the classes. My instructor was just amazing! She taught us everything we needed to know to be successful in the dental field.
As I began my externship, I felt very well prepared. Our instructor provided the preparation to help us feel confident and comfortable stepping into this role. I felt anxious, but it was because I just wanted to get started working with real people instead of our practice dummies. I felt ready! The dental office appreciated the training I had at PMI and, even though they weren't really hiring, they were so impressed with my knowledge and work they offered me a position.
I want to continue my education in this field. I am currently deciding whether to continue with my associate degree in dental hygiene or if I want to go on and obtain my doctorate. I am so grateful for my instructor and for the start PMI gave me in this field.

After graduating from high school, I attended UTEP (University of Texas at El Paso) but despite attempting a number of majors, I still didn't have a plan. The thing that brought me joy was volunteering at the shelter where I adopted my dog. I really loved working with the animals and it made me realize that's what I was meant to do.
I began researching schools with a veterinary program around El Paso and found Pima Medical Institute and enrolled in the Veterinary Assistant program. I cannot tell you how excited and joyful I was to finally start on a path to a career I knew I would love! I had a great experience during my 9-month program. My instructor was wonderful and I received lots of hands-on practice. I was placed in Boerne, near San Antonio, at the Cibolo Creek Veterinary Hospital for my externship and before I left to head back to El Paso, they offered me a position!
After almost three years as a Veterinary Assistant I decided to continue my education and enrolled in the Veterinary Technician program, this time at the Pima Medical in San Antonio. I have been learning so much and am enjoying getting exposure in different areas like exotics and livestock. I appreciate my instructors sharing their experiences and providing hands-on instruction. I plan to graduate later this year.
I love the veterinary field and I am so thankful to Pima Medical for providing a path to a great career that I love!

I entered Pima Medical Institute's Radiography program back in the 80's right after I'd graduated from high school. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, but a friend suggested Radiography and Pima Medical had the most recognized program in the state and didn't require prerequisites. I had some challenges while in the program as I got married and my wife became pregnant with twins. But, I found I loved radiology, I had great instructors and it was completely worth it.
I was hired at my clinical site, Presbyterian Hospital, after graduation and spent most of my career working in interventional radiology and the cardiac cath lab. I was able to raise a family on one income while living in Southern California by being on call almost every night for 25 years. I advanced all the way to Director of Imaging Services at a large hospital in Los Angeles, CA with just my associate degree, but I always knew I wanted to get my bachelor's degree. So once my kids were grown, at age 52, I decided to go back to school. I was researching programs and found Pima Medical had a BSHCA (Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration) program and, even though it had been 30 years, they accepted all of my credits and I was able to complete the program in 20 months. The BSHCA program not only opened my eyes to thoughts of pursuing an executive position (like COO) at the hospital, it's given me the confidence to apply.
I found such success at Pima Medical that both my mother and sister later attended the Medical Assistant program at the ABQ Campus and my sister, seeing my success, enrolled in a Radiography program in North Carolina. I encourage others to go into this field. It has been a wonderful journey for me over the last 30 years and I'm not finished!

Initially drawn to nursing, I spent a few years juggling shifts as a CNA while attending traditional community colleges and universities attempting to get my prerequisites. Those avenues did not fit my learning style and I never found the guidance I needed so I wasn't successful. The struggle intensified after losing my mother unexpectedly, prompting an immediate return home to support my father and a complete reset.
Advertisements for Pima Medical Institute led me to make an appointment. After hearing my advisor talk about the Medical Assistant (MA) program, I knew this was going to be my next stepping stone into the medical field. I had amazing instructors who provided the guidance I needed and launched me into my new career. I started working at US Healthworks/Concentra specializing in Occupational Medicine/ Urgent Care where I obtained skills in drug screening, audiology and pulmonary testing, as well as basic x-rays.
After three fulfilling years I was ready for my next challenge, so I returned to the Renton Campus where I transitioned into teaching the Medical Assistant program. I loved being right back where I had started, now teaching the next generation of MA's. Pima Medical's support extended beyond the classroom and I was given the opportunity to use their Enrichment Scholarship to earn an associate degree in Health Care Administration (HCA). In 2023, I ventured into Pima Medical's Admissions Department as a Medical Career Specialist. This role truly feeds my purpose. I am able to inspire students by sharing my experiences and then encourage them to take the first step toward their own career. My decade long journey with Pima Medical Institute is a testament to the transformative impact that has truly changed my life.

Growing up I'd always had my heart set on healthcare and my dream was to become a nurse. Despite being a good student initially, family issues led me to drop out of high school. I eventually got my GED and completed a nursing assistant program through Job Corps. Life threw more challenges my way, including a young marriage, poor partner choice and raising five children as a single mother.
After seeing advertisements for Pima Medical Institute, I was drawn to enroll in the Medical Assistant (MA) evening program. Balancing work, school and motherhood was tough, but I persevered for nine months. I began my new career in urgent care and later pediatrics, where I've been ever since. After a few years, Pima Medical reached out encouraging me to pursue an online Health Care Administration (HCA) associate degree. This degree opened more career doors for me. Today, I am a Lead Medical Assistant at Phoenix Children's Hospital, working with the Homeless Youth Outreach Department. I wear many hats, including clinical lead, Spanish interpreter and vaccine coordinator. Recently, I enrolled in an accelerated nursing bachelor's program at Grand Canyon University, transferring many Pima Medical credits and moving closer to my dream of becoming a nurse.
Pima Medial provided the foundation for my success. And even today, I always accept their student externs. The difference in skill between their students and others is noticeable. Returning to school as a single mom with five kids was challenging, but it was worth it. Many feel stuck in minimum wage jobs, but education can change that. Though it's tough initially, the long-term benefits include better job opportunities and more time with family. My journey was hard, but Pima Medical Institute was the key to my success. When I decided to become a radiologic technologist, Pima Medical Institute's Radiography (RAD) program stood out to me. Unlike community college, I could start right away, and that was a big draw. The program was challenging, but the friendships I formed with my classmates kept me motivated and accountable. I really enjoyed my instructors, who provided both emotional and professional support.
The diversity of my clinical rotations was something I truly appreciated. I had the chance to practice my skills in a variety of settings, from a rural hospital to an orthopedic clinic, a large hospital, and even special procedure rotations. These experiences not only helped me decide which areas of radiography I enjoyed most but also pushed me out of my comfort zone, honing my skill set.
My first job was in urgent care, where I was the only tech on site. This role was invaluable for my growth. I had to rely on my education and critical thinking skills to obtain the best images possible. After years of working in different disciplines, I discovered my passion in Interventional Radiology and the Cath Lab. I became the lead tech in a Neuro Endovascular Lab, a role that eventually led me to join Rapid Medical Inc. as a Clinical Specialist. This position has been one of the best things to happen in my career, allowing me to travel, expand my knowledge, and contribute to patient care in a new way.
I'm incredibly grateful to Pima Medical Institute for their RAD program and the online Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences (BSRS) program. Both provided a strong foundation that has allowed my career to flourish.

When I got braces in high school, I was fascinated by how something so simple could transform a person's smile-and their confidence. That experience sparked my interest in the dental field, and after researching options, I found Pima Medical Institute's Dental Assistant (DA) program. I enrolled right after high school and jumped into the program.
My instructors were incredible! I never considered myself a standout student, but the hands-on learning style was perfect for me. I learned so much, and when it came time for my externship, it felt like a breeze because I was so prepared. They even offered me a job as soon as I finished, and I worked there happily until I moved out of state.
Since graduating in 2011, I've worked in every part of a dental office-from assisting to managing the front desk to being an office manager. Today, I'm a mom of two fast-growing kids, and I want more flexibility to be with them, so I'm going back to school for billing and coding. This will allow me to continue working in the dental field from home.

I knew since I was a child that I wanted to be in the medical field. When it came time for me to graduate from high school, I wasn't interested in a four-year college or university because I just wanted to jump right into the workforce as soon as possible and begin my career in the medical field. After explaining this to my gramma, she recommended Pima Medical Institute. We visited together and took a tour; I knew then that the nine-month Medical Assistant (MA) program was the best fit for me.
My experience as a student was amazing! The MA program is an accelerated program and while you're learning lots of information in a short time, the hands-on practice helps you apply your skills and prepares you for the profession. All the nerves, tears and anxiousness were so worth it. I was so well prepared for my six-week externship that I was offered a position as an MA upon completion. I am still employed there and I recently began going back to school to obtain my associates in Nursing with plans to continue on to get my bachelor's (BSN) degree.
I want to say thank you to every single one of my instructors. Pima Medical changed my life, and I will always be grateful for the education I received, the lifelong relationships I built with my instructors and classmates, and the lasting career it has given me.

Before going back to school, my life wasn't on the best path. After high school, I planned to become a nurse, but deep down I knew it wasn't what I really wanted. Eventually, I moved out on my own, but I found myself surrounded by the wrong people and making choices I wasn't proud of. It wasn't until I met my fiance that I seriously considered going back to school. He encouraged me to think about my future and what would truly make me happy. After some soul-searching, I decided to look for a Dental Assistant program - and for the first time, I felt excited about my future.
I found Pima Medical Institute through an online search, and after seeing so many great reviews from alumni, I knew it was the right place for me. Enrolling was the best decision I could have made. My experience at Pima Medical was nothing short of amazing - the support from my classmates, instructors, and family kept me going. My instructor, Margarita, was especially supportive. I was excited for my externship at Associates in Family Dentistry and grateful to be hired upon completion. As I plan to move soon, I'm holding off on furthering my education for now, but I'm eager to explore my options.
