Which program did you complete and what made you decide to continue your education online? I started with the Associate of Applied Science in Health Care Administration and later moved on to the Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration. What made you choose PMI's program? I chose to take advantage of PMI's online program for a couple of reasons. Although I had many years of experience working in the medical field and was a certified Medical Assistant and Surgical Technician, I did not have a formal education on how to manage and run a medical practice. The other reason was to benefit my students. As an instructor, it is hard to advise students and promote an online education if you have not taken the online courses yourself. What was it like to manage a full-time position and your course load? Managing a full-time position and the course load was not very difficult; however it did take some planning. When attending classes on a campus you will have a class at a specific time daily, however, online courses are not like this. While there are specific due dates and times for assignments to be submitted, you are able to work on this material on your own schedule. The key is to create a schedule for yourself in order to be successful. Did you feel like the coursework was practical for your profession? The coursework was absolutely practical for the medical professionals. Every course that I have taken online with PMI has made me a better leader and professional in the medical field. The Associates of Applied Science in Health Care Administration and Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration programs are packed full of courses that are beneficial in educating people on how to run and manage any type of medical practice. These are only a few of the many essential skills I have acquired through this online program. Would you encourage others to continue their education and would you recommend this program? I would encourage anyone that wants a leadership role in the medical field to continue their education with these programs, even if they do not see themselves as an office manager. The programs can prepare anyone for leadership within specific departments and can improve anyone's resume so they can obtain their dream job.

Prior to attending Pima Medical Institute, I worked in HR in the gaming industry for 10 years. I knew I wanted to pursue a new career, and having several family members in the medical field helped me decide to go in that direction. After researching different schools and programs considering length, cost and convenience, I chose Pima Medical Institute's Respiratory Therapy program. It was very challenging and required dedication but our program director was very knowledgeable and the instructors were really helpful. My clinicals prepared me for my job and I was hired shortly after passing my state boards at the same hospital where my husband is currently employed. He works days and I work nights, which works well for our family. COVID-19 has clearly made everyone aware of what a respiratory therapist does, but it brought on a whirlwind of emotions for me. I found out right before it hit that I was pregnant which has added to my concern and my family's concern for me. I have worked with some COVID-19 patients, but my hospital has been trying hard to keep me extra safe, so I'm mainly assigned to our non-COVID patients needing respiratory care. One way our job has changed with COVID-19 is that we now fill the role of family members. Right now even our non-COVID patients can't have family with them. They are lonely and want to talk, so we spend extra time with each patient. It's so important for their healing to have face-to-face interactions and right now we provide that and fill the role of family. Being a respiratory therapist is a very rewarding job and I encourage others to a career in the respiratory therapy field! Pima Medical was quick and hands on and it worked well for me. My job is very rewarding and I love it!

I am proud to say I am a radiologic technologist at Sharps Memorial Hospital, a level two trauma center, in San Diego, CA. Because of my new career, my wife and children are well cared for and we are finally financially secure. I had to make huge sacrifices and I almost failed, but I don't regret my decision to take this journey. After being rejected by two programs, I was accepted at Pima Medical Institute's Albuquerque Campus Radiography program. The only problem was, we were living in San Diego. I quit my job, drove to Albuquerque (a place I'd never even visited) on a Saturday, got an apartment and started my classes on Monday. I am a hands-on-learner, not a book scholar, so the first couple semesters were very difficult and I was close to failing the program. My instructors were always there for me when I needed them. My classmates and instructors became my ABQ family. For over two years, I lived separate from my family, only making trips back and forth when we could. It was SO hard! I am currently working the graveyard shift. I am called upon to perform lots of COVID X-rays in the ICU, and within the entire hospital while performing different types of X-rays at the trauma room, ER, NICU, PACU and OR. I feel prepared and qualified, but no one could have prepared me for the number of code blues and deaths I am seeing right now due to COVID. I'm grateful to Pima Medical Institute and I know all the difficulties I had to overcome were worth the end result. I've improved my life and my family's life. My advice to prospective students is don't be afraid or doubt yourself and never give up!

I was in my early 20's, ready to complete a degree in finance when I realized I really didn't want to spend my life sitting behind a desk. I had a few family members working in the radiography field and I noticed they not only had a great career, but they could choose to work in different modalities and had lots of variety in their jobs. I began researching, found Pima Medical Institute's Radiography program and enrolled. I had wonderful instructors! It's an intense and tough program, but the way the program is structured really makes you feel prepared for your profession. I enjoyed the shorter rotations for clinicals which exposed me to many different areas and modalities. Once I knew what I was looking for, I was able to complete multiple rotations in my area of interest which prepared me for a job at that very location. I was hired at University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) and after a year I was promoted to a charge technologist and almost 2 years ago I moved into the role of General Radiology Supervisor. I love the fast-paced environment at UNMH. We're the only trauma one hospital in the state and we see something new every day. I'm not the only Pima Medical graduate in my department, we currently have five employees that were my classmates and each year I hire multiple new Pima Medical new graduates. Pima Medical provided a great education and really prepared me for the field.

After being a truck driver and construction worker for 20 plus years, I made a promise to my mother before she died that I would go back to school. For nearly five years I passed Pima Medical Institute on my daily drive, and finally found the courage to pull in and take the pretest for the Nursing program. Going back to school at age 50 was scary, but I loved the atmosphere, the instructors and my classmates at Pima Medical. The instructors did an exceptional and extraordinary job preparing us for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). I applied at Banner Desert in Mesa where I had completed my clinicals and I was hired. It was 2019, and I was immediately thrown into the COVID Pandemic. A year later I decided to become a traveling nurse. Initially, I worried I might not be qualified enough or have enough experience, but I quickly got over that. Every place is different, but most of the core staff really appreciates the relief that travelers provide. I have been to 10 different places in four years. I'm considered a Banner Staffing Traveler within the Banner facilities nationwide and I call Banner Tucson my home, as it is where I spend the most time. Some of the challenges of being a traveler are finding a place to live and being away from family and friends. But, I am getting experience and confidence in different facilities and becoming more adaptable and flexible in my career. Plus, I am making a great salary. Pima Medical Institute changed my life forever. I made some lifelong friends during my experience, I had some incredible, humble, giving and caring instructors and I am truly grateful!

When I first started my journey in health care, I was on track to become a nurse. After working as a phlebotomist for three years, I quit my job focusing on finishing the last few prerequisites for nursing school. However, life had other plans. I got pregnant with my now four-year-old daughter and took a year and a half off to spend time with her. In 2020, I began to reconsider my career path. I realized that the clinical side of healthcare was no longer my passion; instead, I was drawn to the administration and business side. After researching various degrees, I chose the online Health Care Administration (HCA) associate and bachelor's programs at Pima Medical Institute. My experience at Pima Medical was incredible. Both programs' flexibility and the support from instructors and advisors were exceptional. They fit perfectly into my busy life as a full-time employee, wife and mother. The instructors were always available and willing to assist with anything I needed. The resources provided to students, from class scheduling to financial guidance, made everything so manageable. Upon completion of my bachelor's degree, I found a position as a Program Administrator at Baylor University Medical Center in Texas, managing the OBGYN, Hematology/Oncology, and Mechanical Circulatory Support programs and residents. I am currently working full-time and exploring graduate programs for Health Care Administration and Business Administration. My future goals include becoming certified in health care emergency management to effectively plan and respond to emergencies. Thank you, Pima Medical Institute, for your guidance and support. Completing my degrees with you has been a wonderful experience, allowing me to achieve goals I never thought possible.

I have always had an interest in the medical field, but had no idea where to begin. My brother went to Pima Medical Institute for the Veterinary Technician program, which led me to look into the school. After my first tour, I knew it was the place for me and I enrolled in the Medical Assistant (MA) program. My student experience was amazing! I had fantastic instructors and got so much hands-on experience in such a short amount of time. At first, it was difficult to balance full-time school while working, but I loved what I was learning so much that putting in the work was something I was more than willing to do. I loved getting to practice my hands-on skills with my classmates. Doing things like injections and blood draws on real people truly prepares you for real patients. I graduated from Pima Medical with a 4.0 GPA, and as soon as I started to apply for jobs, the offers were rolling in! I ultimately chose to work at University of Washington Medical Center because it seemed like the best opportunity for me, and it definitely has been. Since graduating, I have been working at UW for the last year. I have learned so much and have never been more confident in a job. Getting my education at Pima Medical Institute was truly one of the best decisions I have ever made. It prepared me so much for my future and made stepping into a new role a piece of cake. I would highly recommend Pima Medical to others seeking to change their lives.

I spent nearly seven years working as a Medical Assistant (MA) before I finally decided to continue my education and complete the Radiography program at Pima Medical Institute. One of the biggest obstacles I faced was my commute - I live in Colorado Springs, so this was a 74-mile drive each way to attend class at the Denver Campus. That meant spending at least two and a half hours a day just on the road, in addition to my coursework, clinicals and job at UCHealth. The instructors at Pima Medical were incredible. They were more than just educators-they were mentors who believed in me, even when I doubted myself. The program was challenging, but it was also incredibly rewarding. I loved every moment of it, and I genuinely believe that the hands-on, real-world experience I gained during my time there has set me up for success in my new career. One of the most exciting parts of this journey was being hired to work for both UCHealth and Penrad Imaging before even completing my program. I was offered a full-time position at Penrad Imaging and later, I was hired as a PRN at UCHealth. It was a huge confidence boost, knowing that I was already making an impact in the field even before passing my ARRT registry exam. Now, I'm officially a Radiologic Technologist, and I couldn't be more excited to start this new chapter of my career. Every challenge, every late night, every moment of doubt was worth it. I have always wanted a career in healthcare. I had previously pursued a nursing route, but was discouraged and unsure if nursing was really what I wanted to do. I came to Pima Medical Institute interested in the Pharmacy Technician program, but the admissions counselor I spoke to asked if I had heard about Respiratory Therapy (RT). She showed me a video explaining what an RT did and I was sold. Then and there, I found my calling. I was meant to be a Respiratory Therapist. I graduated from the Respiratory Therapy (RT) program with an Associate of Occupational Science in 2011. Knowing where the industry was headed, and my drive to move beyond bedside, I enrolled in the online Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy program (BSRT) and graduated in 2014. Since then I have worked in a critical access hospital, an acute care hospital, and a level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The NICU was my favorite place to work and where I excelled. My experience allowed me to sit for three additional specialty certifications, adding some hard-earned credentials to my resume. Along the way, I found my second calling and passion - teaching all things respiratory. I continued on to obtain a Master's degree, which opened up another door for career advancement. I began teaching in a local respiratory therapy program while still working bedside, waiting to make the full transition into education. Fortunately, an opportunity came up to teach in the very same program here at Pima Medical Institute where I had attended 14 years earlier. Here I am, walking the same halls and teaching in the same classrooms I was a student in many years ago. I've come full circle from student to faculty ... I am still learning and doing what I love!
