I hadn't decided on a vocational direction. I was taking classes in accounting and I was considering the area of probation, when someone I knew recommended me for a part-time position working in a doctor's office. Even though I had no formal training, the doctor thought I had a good attitude so he hired me, trained me, and I started working in his office in May of 1994. When patients asked me where I received my training and I had to tell them it was who I knew, not what I knew, that got me the job. I knew I wanted to go back to school to get my Medical Assistant certification. So since PMI had such great reputation, that's where I enrolled. I had great instructors who helped us not only understand the material, but taught us why we needed to know it. They taught us the importance of our role to both our physician and our office. My instructor even wrote a meaningful poem for each student before we graduated. I continued to work for the same physician for another 5 years and then took a position as a Medical Administrative Assistant Instructor back at PMI. After 15 years, I still love my job teaching new students! I'm currently a student myself working towards my bachelor degree and I hope to teach until I retire. PMI opened the door to my future and it's been one of the best decisions I've ever made!

After graduating from high school, I attended UTEP (University of Texas at El Paso) but despite attempting a number of majors, I still didn't have a plan. The thing that brought me joy was volunteering at the shelter where I adopted my dog. I really loved working with the animals and it made me realize that's what I was meant to do. I began researching schools with a veterinary program around El Paso and found Pima Medical Institute and enrolled in the Veterinary Assistant program. I cannot tell you how excited and joyful I was to finally start on a path to a career I knew I would love! I had a great experience during my 9-month program. My instructor was wonderful and I received lots of hands-on practice. I was placed in Boerne, near San Antonio, at the Cibolo Creek Veterinary Hospital for my externship and before I left to head back to El Paso, they offered me a position! After almost three years as a Veterinary Assistant I decided to continue my education and enrolled in the Veterinary Technician program, this time at the Pima Medical in San Antonio. I have been learning so much and am enjoying getting exposure in different areas like exotics and livestock. I appreciate my instructors sharing their experiences and providing hands-on instruction. I plan to graduate later this year. I love the veterinary field and I am so thankful to Pima Medical for providing a path to a great career that I love!

I grew up in Cuba where I attended medical school and practiced medicine. In 2011, my husband and I came to the United States. Unfortunately, my English was just too poor to enroll in medical school here, so I was unable to practice medicine. I worked many different jobs and after a time became frustrated that I wasn't able to apply my medical knowledge. I was interested in ultrasound so a friend recommended Pima Medical Institute's Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program. When I visited Pima Medical I had no trouble passing the math exam, but I really struggled with the English one. My admissions advisor recommended I meet the DMS program director and sit in on a lecture. Imagine my excitement when I was able to understand almost everything because the medical terminology was so similar. I enrolled in the program and it changed my life! Pima Medical was not only my school for ultrasound, it was also the place I learned English. My instructors were extremely helpful and patient. I had a very good clinical experience and, in fact, they called the school to see if they could hire me before I had even finished. I have been working in hospital settings as an ultrasound technologist and have even taught at Pima Medical in their DMS program. I am quite sure there is no other school that would have given me the same opportunity that Pima Medical did, with my limited English. They took a risk on me and I finished as their Outstanding Student! I am so grateful for Pima Medical Institute.

Ever since kindergarten I always received extra help with school because of my vision issues. I struggled with not feeling smart enough and I never applied myself because I was afraid of failing. My dad had heard good things about Pima Medical Institute, so after high school he really encouraged me to check out their programs. After meeting with an advisor and watching a YouTube video of one of Pima Medical's graduates talking about his experiences, I decided to choose their Radiography program. I fell in love with my teachers, got a 4.0 GPA and graduated with honors! Kristen, my instructor, helped me with my test anxiety, was always available for my questions no matter what time of day, and was a huge part of my success at Pima Medical. But, I worked hard and was dedicated to getting good grades and would often come in hours early just to study and prepare for class. My classmates were amazing, and, in fact, I met one of my best friends through this program. My instructors chose a good first clinical site for me which provided lots of one-on-one training and helped build my confidence. My last clinical experience was at Banner University Medical Center, a level one trauma hospital, where I just recently landed my dream job! I am 20 years old and thanks to all my hard work, the excellent program and the dedicated staff at Pima Medical Institute, I am proud to say I have set myself up for success with a great job in the medical field!

When COVID hit, I had to close my in-person business and was struggling and searching for a career that would always be in demand. As a single mother of two, I needed to know that the work I was doing would not be in jeopardy. Having been raised in a family with healthcare backgrounds, I chose to enroll in the Medical Assistant (MA) program at Pima Medical Institute. In less than a year I graduated with all the skills I needed to enter the world of healthcare. My instructors were very thorough and amazing, especially Mr. Wilson. He not only shared his clinical expertise, but gave me invaluable real-world knowledge and insight into the field. I currently work fulltime in clinical research developing pharmaceutical drugs and therapies at the cutting edge of medicine. I'm working with Pfizer, Moderna, Eli Lilly, Braintree and other sponsors to help develop treatments for illnesses and indications from vaccines like the MRNA-Covid 19 Booster Vaccine to rare diseases such as Amyloidosis and Alzheimer's. I couldn't have done it without taking that first step of enrolling in the MA program. I'm currently continuing my education with Pima Medical's online Health Care Administration associate and bachelor's degree programs. Starting my career with Pima Medical was easily the best decision I have ever made and it has opened doors to even broader horizons. If you are on the fence about making an investment in yourself, I encourage you to enroll and pursue a career in healthcare.

Growing up I'd always had my heart set on healthcare and my dream was to become a nurse. Despite being a good student initially, family issues led me to drop out of high school. I eventually got my GED and completed a nursing assistant program through Job Corps. Life threw more challenges my way, including a young marriage, poor partner choice and raising five children as a single mother. After seeing advertisements for Pima Medical Institute, I was drawn to enroll in the Medical Assistant (MA) evening program. Balancing work, school and motherhood was tough, but I persevered for nine months. I began my new career in urgent care and later pediatrics, where I've been ever since. After a few years, Pima Medical reached out encouraging me to pursue an online Health Care Administration (HCA) associate degree. This degree opened more career doors for me. Today, I am a Lead Medical Assistant at Phoenix Children's Hospital, working with the Homeless Youth Outreach Department. I wear many hats, including clinical lead, Spanish interpreter and vaccine coordinator. Recently, I enrolled in an accelerated nursing bachelor's program at Grand Canyon University, transferring many Pima Medical credits and moving closer to my dream of becoming a nurse. Pima Medial provided the foundation for my success. And even today, I always accept their student externs. The difference in skill between their students and others is noticeable. Returning to school as a single mom with five kids was challenging, but it was worth it. Many feel stuck in minimum wage jobs, but education can change that. Though it's tough initially, the long-term benefits include better job opportunities and more time with family. My journey was hard, but Pima Medical Institute was the key to my success. With determination and effort, you can achieve your dreams too.

I have always had an interest in the medical field, but had no idea where to begin. My brother went to Pima Medical Institute for the Veterinary Technician program, which led me to look into the school. After my first tour, I knew it was the place for me and I enrolled in the Medical Assistant (MA) program. My student experience was amazing! I had fantastic instructors and got so much hands-on experience in such a short amount of time. At first, it was difficult to balance full-time school while working, but I loved what I was learning so much that putting in the work was something I was more than willing to do. I loved getting to practice my hands-on skills with my classmates. Doing things like injections and blood draws on real people truly prepares you for real patients. I graduated from Pima Medical with a 4.0 GPA, and as soon as I started to apply for jobs, the offers were rolling in! I ultimately chose to work at University of Washington Medical Center because it seemed like the best opportunity for me, and it definitely has been. Since graduating, I have been working at UW for the last year. I have learned so much and have never been more confident in a job. Getting my education at Pima Medical Institute was truly one of the best decisions I have ever made. It prepared me so much for my future and made stepping into a new role a piece of cake. I would highly recommend Pima Medical to others seeking to change their lives.

I was looking for a change from my previous jobs in food service and explored various community colleges in Seattle. After considering culinary arts, I decided to pursue a healthcare career where I knew jobs were more in demand. I chose Pima Medical Institute because the stories from previous graduates resonated with me. They were just like me, seeking change and career advancement. Despite having no prior knowledge or experience in pharmacy, I chose the Pharmacy Technician program to challenge myself. My experience at Pima Medical was fun and engaging. The courses, from Career Prep to the Pharmacy Technician classes, were well planned. I learned everything I needed to succeed. The biggest challenge was balancing homework and projects with a full-time job, but it was worth it. The support from the staff at Pima's Renton campus was invaluable. The admissions and financial aid advisors helped me with my FAFSA, easing my financial worries. My Career Prep instructor made learning exciting and engaging. The staff provided support and organized stress-relieving activities like the Halloween costume contest. My instructor imparted all the pharmacy knowledge I needed and now apply daily in my work. Since graduating from Pima Medical in 2018, I worked at ReadyMeds for nearly four years and I've spent the last several years working as a Specialty Pharmacy Technician at Kaiser Permanente of Washington. I highly recommend Pima Medical Institute for the support and programs they offer to help you achieve your goals and succeed in your career. Now I'm one of those graduates sharing my story to inspire others!

I grew up in an unsupportive environment, constantly reminded of my limitations. After dabbling in community college and an unfinished nursing program, I found myself divorced with two young children, wondering what I could do to provide for my family. That's when I discovered Pima Medical Institute and enrolled in the Medical Secretary program. Within three months, I graduated and landed a job in the medical field, giving me the stability I desperately needed. After moving to Las Vegas, I continued to grow my career-first as an office manager and later doing billing. One day, I learned that Pima Medical was launching a Respiratory Therapy program. I jumped at the chance to enroll, excited to take my career to the next level. Balancing school, work, and motherhood was tough. My kids and I would do homework together, and I showed them it's never too late to change your path. After graduating, I was hired at Summerlin Hospital, where I worked for 14 years. Watching the devastation in New York, when the pandemic hit in 2020, I knew I had to step up and help. I was hired as a traveler at New York Presbyterian Cornell, one of the top hospitals in the country. It was intense-over 230 patients on ventilators when I arrived -but I learned and grew through it all. While on the frontlines, I was also pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy through Pima Medical. I faced moments of doubt, but with the support of my program director, I pushed through. My son and I graduated with our bachelor's degrees in the same year-a moment of immense pride for my family. I now work for the Nevada Donor Network, a new and upcoming field for RT's, turning tragedy into hope through organ donation. I feel a deep sense of purpose, knowing that I help give families a second chance. Thanks to Pima Medical, I've built a career that I love, and I'll never stop learning or growing.
