Before coming to Pima Medical Institute, I was employed by Toyota and worked on cars for a living. I had always had the desire to help people, but I wasn't sure how to move in that direction. One day, I saw a commercial for Pima Medical Institute and decided it might be a good place for me to start. I was apprehensive at first and wondered if I would be able to be successful in school, but I had a great experience at PMI and everything went very smoothly. Whenever I needed anything from the instructors, they were there for me. Even now, I am still in contact with my former instructors and I know I can call them whenever I need their help. When it came time for my externship, I had a great experience at Children's Hospital. In fact, upon completion of my program, I was offered a position as a Medical Assistant. I've never had a job that I liked before, and now I love my job! Working as a Medical Assistant has helped me realize I want to become a nurse. I am currently working on my prerequisites and plan to start a nursing program this fall. PMI gave me my start and the confidence I needed, and now I can do more! Thanks, PMI!

I was a single mom and was in and out of menial jobs living paycheck to paycheck for many years. Several years ago I attended my sister's graduation from Pima Medical Institute. I recall how inspired I felt watching her walk across that stage and it made me want a better life. But at the time, I just didn't believe I could do it. Last year I finally signed up for the Medical Assistant program. I would work all night, grab a couple hours sleep, get my kids off to school and take the bus to PMI. Sometimes I'd fall asleep waiting at the bus stop. There were days I didn't have money for the bus or for daycare so I would miss classes. Sometimes my budget felt so drained, I was too tired to even get up. It was a low point when I was dismissed from the program because of my absences. Life was so hard; there was even a time when we were homeless. When PMI offered to give me a second chance, I just knew I was not going to let anything get in the way. I wanted a better life and I wanted a career for my children's sake. My teachers were wonderful and welcomed me back. PMI totally changed my life. Before my externship was even finished I prepared my resume and began looking for jobs. When Affiliated Dermatology called me for an interview and later offered me a position on their team, I was thrilled! I got to walk across that stage and I am so happy with my new career! One thing I learned through my journey at PMI is there are going to be set backs, but you just have to keep going. I love Pima Medical Institute!

I was a stay at home mom for 18 years. When my oldest child headed to college I felt like I had lost my identity and purpose, but I just wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I knew I didn't want to be behind a desk and I enjoyed being on my feet and using my hands. So when I saw the commercial for the Dental Assisting Program and Pima Medical Institute, I decided it might be a fit for me. It was somewhat intimidating going back to school when I was the oldest student in the class and it was certainly challenging having homework again while balancing family and home life. But, my instructor was helpful and cheered me on. I felt very prepared, although extremely nervous, for my hands on externship experience. But I learned so much and it helped me understand that I really wanted to work in a specialty area of dentistry. I was initially hired at a general practice but soon found the place I really belonged; a periodontist office. I absolutely love it! I enjoy meeting and getting to know my patients. I have great coworkers and wonderful doctors who continue to teach me about their specialty. I love it all and am so happy! Pima Medical has been so good in helping me go from "what's my purpose?" to "this is where I should be!" Finding that out and being happy where I am has been everything. It has done so much for me! Plus, my kids are really proud of me. I love the patients! It's different every day! It's a lot of fun. I love it! I'm so glad I did this!

My daughter is a neonatal nurse and an associate director at Banner Hospital. I've always said I wanted to be just like her when I grew up! I was just 16 years old when I had my daughter and spent the next 32 years working in the grocery industry while raising my kids. It wasn't until last year when my sister passed away that I experienced firsthand just how short life can be. I decided to take that tragedy and do something positive with it. My sister had always told me I could do anything and was smarter than I thought, so I decided to be like my daughter and obtain a career in the medical field. My daughter had originally attended Pima Medical Institute for her CNA, so I boldly made the call and set up an appointment. Coming in as a 56-year-old mother who hadn't had any education since getting my GED in 1989, was intimidating. But from the person who welcomed me in the lobby, to the admissions advisor and then my instructors - everyone was kind and encouraging. I loved my instructors and I learned so much from them. It was a wonderful experience and it empowered me. I feel like I can do anything! I thought it would be fun to work with babies and young parents, so I pursued and obtained a position working in the neonatal intensive care unit at Banner Health. My plan is to absorb as much information as I can and then continue my education. This is such an open field with so many opportunities. I'm so thankful for my new career and everyone at Pima Medical. You can do anything you set your mind to and you're never too old to take the risk to start over!

When I was in high school, I wanted to become a doctor, but life happened and I spent the next 15 years doing what I thought I had to do, instead of pursuing what I loved. After my grandfather passed away in 2017, I spent four years caring for my grandmother. During this time, I realized I needed to follow my dream. I felt as though it was too late to become a doctor- as I would be 60 by the time I finished- but my research showed there were many alternative positions needed in the healthcare field. I was familiar with their reputation, so I chose Pima Medical Institute for my education. I appreciate how they exclude unnecessary classes that are typical of traditional colleges and universities, and on day one teach key concepts and skills that will be used in the field. I attended and graduated from the Nursing Assistant program and obtained my license as a CNA. My externship really opened my eyes to just how well-prepared Pima Medical makes you for the workplace. Despite the higher cost of attending, I was very impressed with how quickly they were able to get me into the program versus other schools. Wanting to do more and have more responsibility, I enrolled in the Medical Assistant (MA) program. For my externship, I was placed at a pediatric site that fit my skills and personality and ended up being offered an MA position at the end. I have decided it's not time to stop learning. I am currently enrolled in the online Healthcare Administration program to obtain my associate's degree by next March and my bachelor's degree the following year. For anyone interested in working in the medical field, I highly recommend Pima Medical. My instructors were encouraging and attentive to my learning style and taught me the important concepts of healthcare. I want to thank everyone at Pima Medical for my success and continued education, especially Misty Byrnes and Allie Settles.

When I decided to become a radiologic technologist, Pima Medical Institute's Radiography (RAD) program stood out to me. Unlike community college, I could start right away, and that was a big draw. The program was challenging, but the friendships I formed with my classmates kept me motivated and accountable. I really enjoyed my instructors, who provided both emotional and professional support. The diversity of my clinical rotations was something I truly appreciated. I had the chance to practice my skills in a variety of settings, from a rural hospital to an orthopedic clinic, a large hospital, and even special procedure rotations. These experiences not only helped me decide which areas of radiography I enjoyed most but also pushed me out of my comfort zone, honing my skill set. My first job was in urgent care, where I was the only tech on site. This role was invaluable for my growth. I had to rely on my education and critical thinking skills to obtain the best images possible. After years of working in different disciplines, I discovered my passion in Interventional Radiology and the Cath Lab. I became the lead tech in a Neuro Endovascular Lab, a role that eventually led me to join Rapid Medical Inc. as a Clinical Specialist. This position has been one of the best things to happen in my career, allowing me to travel, expand my knowledge, and contribute to patient care in a new way. I'm incredibly grateful to Pima Medical Institute for their RAD program and the online Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences (BSRS) program. Both provided a strong foundation that has allowed my career to flourish.

After running a travel agency for fifteen years, I began searching for a new career in the medical field. I'd always been interested in photography, so radiology seemed like a natural fit. At 43, I returned to school to earn my associate degree in Radiologic Science. I gained experience working at a regional hospital in Minnesota, learning X-ray, CT, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine. Then in 2014, my husband and I, looking to fulfill our dream, moved to Alaska where I became a multi-modality technologist with Providence in Seward. Eventually, I stepped into the role of Diagnostic Imaging Supervisor, leading a $1.8 million department remodel to improve patient care. Upgrading our equipment to include a new CT scanner and digital X-ray systems has enabled us to offer year-round mammography, allowing for earlier breast cancer detection and better outcomes. In 2023, my love for learning led me to Pima Medical Institute, where I completed my Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Science (BSRS) online. Graduating with honors was a major accomplishment. I was especially impressed with the instructors and the quality of education at Pima Medical, and I'm proud to be a graduate. We are a critical care access hospital that sees patients from around the world. Tourists visit our community for various reasons, such as sport fishing, sightseeing, mountain hiking, mountain biking and cruise ships. This year we had ninety-six cruise ships bringing thousands of passengers on and off the ship. In my role, I often meet patients on one of the toughest days of their lives. My goal is to make a difference for them. I'm grateful for the skills and support from Pima Medical that has allowed me to provide the best care possible.

I grew up in an unsupportive environment, constantly reminded of my limitations. After dabbling in community college and an unfinished nursing program, I found myself divorced with two young children, wondering what I could do to provide for my family. That's when I discovered Pima Medical Institute and enrolled in the Medical Secretary program. Within three months, I graduated and landed a job in the medical field, giving me the stability I desperately needed. After moving to Las Vegas, I continued to grow my career-first as an office manager and later doing billing. One day, I learned that Pima Medical was launching a Respiratory Therapy program. I jumped at the chance to enroll, excited to take my career to the next level. Balancing school, work, and motherhood was tough. My kids and I would do homework together, and I showed them it's never too late to change your path. After graduating, I was hired at Summerlin Hospital, where I worked for 14 years. Watching the devastation in New York, when the pandemic hit in 2020, I knew I had to step up and help. I was hired as a traveler at New York Presbyterian Cornell, one of the top hospitals in the country. It was intense-over 230 patients on ventilators when I arrived -but I learned and grew through it all. While on the frontlines, I was also pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy through Pima Medical. I faced moments of doubt, but with the support of my program director, I pushed through. My son and I graduated with our bachelor's degrees in the same year-a moment of immense pride for my family. I now work for the Nevada Donor Network, a new and upcoming field for RT's, turning tragedy into hope through organ donation. I feel a deep sense of purpose, knowing that I help give families a second chance. Thanks to Pima Medical, I've built a career that I love, and I'll never stop learning or growing.

I started my career as a medic on an ambulance and knew I wanted to become a nurse. Everyone around me was doing it and it felt like the natural next step. At the time, I was working toward a degree in paramedicine at another college but their nursing program required a Certified Nursing Assistant certificate (CNA), which I didn't have. I was ready to get started and Pima Medical Institute offered exactly what I needed: a program that didn't stretch over an entire semester. I enrolled in the CNA course, checked that box and had a great experience. Eventually, I was accepted into a nursing program elsewhere - but the waitlist was a year and a half. That's when Pima Medical reached out. They said, "You're an alum and we have a nursing program." It was accelerated and could get me in right away, so I said yes. I completed the Registered Nurse (RN) program and went straight to work as a nurse. My boss had always encouraged me to pursue my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and though it was something I wanted to do, I just kept putting it off. I finally enrolled in another school's program but didn't like the structure. They said it was "fully online", but there were group projects and required meetings that didn't fit my schedule. I dropped and gave Pima Medical a shot again. The BSN program was amazing. It was clearly laid out, well-paced and truly online. I had the support I needed but I could also self-guide. Today, I'm the clinic manager for a company that operates 12 occupational health clinics across five states. Plus, I've been accepted into the Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (MSOL) program at Pima Medical. I'm pursuing this advanced degree to grow as a leader and bring more to the table. Pima Medical has always been honest, consistent and structured. If you're a self-starter with a busy schedule, this is the school for you.
